Hose Identity Crisis

Hey,What is the hose that runs into the airbox... from a little black box just up a bit... is it the idle air control ? or is it to the air pump or something....

cuz I put on a filter just for kicks... and now the hose is just dangling there... my exhaust pops like crazy and my friend said that maybe that was the cause... but i think its just an exhaust leak...

ANYWAY

what is this hose and what happens if i "plug" it with something

AIV/PAIR system, allows extra air to enter your exhaust to warm up the cat faster. just slap a breather filter on there and your good

popping = backfiring? could be the timing...

can i PLUG this hose?

or is it necessary

plus do i even need an AIV/PAIR system?my friend told me i can remove it
