For those of you who have used hose clamps instead of buying new exhaust hangers, how did you use the clamps to pull the exhaust up? Did you tighten the clamps over the stock hangers in order to pull the exhaust up?

ive never used hose clamps but i have used cable with a U shaped clamp to hold it up temporarily. you could try that if you cant get the hose clamps to work.

They do sell exhaust hangers at the local parts store for about $5-7 a piece.

Nismo exhaust hangars are less "stretchy" and work great.

They also don't transmit resonance into the car.

nismo exhaust hangers were my first option, but their pretty expensive, but worth it! i'm just trying to look for a cheaper alternative to pulling my duals a littler higher. i guess you can say i'm trying not to spend any money to do this since i already have a pack of hose clamps sitting in my room.

i'll just give it a go later today and try to figure out how to use hose clamps, shouldn't be that hard.

never done it, but it seems if you go right over your stock oval hangers, it will work great by limiting how far they can hang, but still have the rubber for noise/vibration/rattle isolation. i would probably run a ziptie or two around the whole assembly afterwards, so the hose clamp cant slide off the side.

i've wonder if anyone ever filled their exhaust hangers with poly....

and what exactly the results of that would be. i would have to guess it would make the resonance in the car unbearable.

i used big, long cable ties when i first swapped it. don't bend it too much or you'll stress the heck out of something, like a manifold (tubular) or whathaveyou, and crack something. just don't wrap it around the piping, wrap it around the metal posts on the exhaust and strap it up to whatever you like.

I did it:

Lifted about 3/4 inch.... and the tow truck driver still jacked up my GT Spec... coolest thing ever.

Thanks, I was planning on doing this when I get my duals in... im glad you didnt succumb to the nismo hangars. they are not worth the money if you can spend $2 on hose clamps and have a more sturdy exhaust hanging solution.

well actually this was just temporary, but i'm sure new oe style hangers would work fine rather thatn nismo's.

sweet, guess my idea worked. i might have to try this now, my coilovers and gt spec exhaust dont agree all the time, with the exhuast taking a beating because of it.

how much did you lower your car?

I have GT Spec and stock suspension and my muffler is about 4-5" from the ground. It may be because my front sits so high with SR/No AC/PS.

I'm scared to lower it more than an inch because I have huge speedbumps in my apt complex. Now, I'm thinkin about a spring/shock combo.

get a good mount from the DP to the transmission mount and get new rubber hangars from autozone or the like for a couple dollars each. i also had to cut the rear left tow hook off. now my canister sits nice and tucked, and all of the tubing has great ground clearance. it's equal to the frame rails under there.

upon reading this post i went out and got some hose clamps...my rsr ex-mag was sitting a bit low...brought it up a good amount and looks a lot more flush. I like it. Although now the exhaust is pretty stiff, doesnt move much if i try to push it with my foot at all. I will see tomorrow if this adds any resonance/vibration and hopefully won't quicken the loosening of my turbo to manifold bolts(just retightened them and used loctite but i didnt have the stock bolt stop to hold them from working themselves out).

i bet if you get that hose clamp on there tight around the oem bushing/grommet/hanger it won't slip off cus the clamp will most likely dig into the rubber a bit . but zip tie might be a good (ghetto a** f***) safety measure.

i wan't to do this tomorrow . my car is slammed and i need a way to get the exhaust up a bit. also my cat converter scrapes the most. but i'm also contemplating getting some hangers from an autozone/pepboys or some ebay urethane.

any advice? my main goal is raise up the exhaust . but i also want to kill as much vibration as i can (poly urethanes)

this is exactly what i want to do. !!!
how did you get the piping by the Cat converter up? mine sits less than 2 inches off the ground IIRC
i want it up more by the frame rails like you mentioned so i can go a bit lower and not worry about damaging my catalytic converter or any other exhaust piping.
can you post pictures of your rig. and please elaborate on the whole process? it would be greatly appreciated .
oh and how did you cut the tow hook off? (stupid question..scissors right?..lmao)
thnx mate.
