the 2007 and 2008 Nissan Maxima is said to have 255 horsepower. the 2006 had 265 horsepower. they say the Maxima didn't lose any power, it's just a new way they test the horsepower or something like that. so the A/C is a 2008 and should go by the new standards or method, so if you were to go with the pre 2006 way of testing, it would have 280??? does anyone know the WHP of the Maxima and A/C 3.5se? my mom has a 07 maxima and i have a 08 A/C and we both have CVT but if i floor the gas pedal in the maxima, the RPMs get up way faster then the A/C. is that because of a different tune or something?

"In April 2005, the Society of Automotive Engineers tightened rating guidelines, calling for all tests to include an SAE-approved witness as well as standardized conditions for fuel, airflow and engine load.", thus the new specs came out with the 2006 models. IMO, Nissan actually dropped the hp on the Maxima in order to give a better edge to the Altima as it is now Nissans "4-door sports sedan" as was released with the coupe, thus increasing more interest in the Alty.

Why the Maxima CVT would seem to accelerate faster than the A/C I have no idea as it is rated 0-60 in 6.3 seconds vs the Alty sedan at 6.0 and the coupe at 5.8

ya the A/C is a smaller car with 15 more hp so it's faster then the Maxima but it seems like the Maxima's RPM's get up faster. i don't know if the CVT is tuned differently or what

Maybe different gear ratios?

Eric,

Probably, not sure how the CVT works when it comes to ratios, but the rear end (hehe, what ever the final ratio in the FWD model is anyway) may be part of the answer.

Damn, just coming up with more questions now......
