horsepower loss and surging

ok well i have a 91 240 sx and when i floor it it gasps the revs up (in idle ) and when i start to spin out or accelerate hard it starts to go then lags the goes then lags just replace all vacuum lines and checked the intake system i also have a short ram intake but its driving me crazy cause the was a vacuum leak at the egr but that didnt fix it maf working if anyone has any i deas help or just make fun of because i cant figure this out

Sure the MAF is working? Check the timing I have an s14 with a KA the chain jumped back two teeth retarded and it acted like that.

I'm hoping the problem isn't a chain jumping a cog or two; but try this first. It's cheap, easy and might work.

Remove the MAF, take it off the air cleaner box, and spray MAF cleaner ($4.95 at NAPA) and reassemble. It doesn't take much to contaminate the fine electrical pick ups that sent a very low voltage to the ECU. Hence, it gives slightly off voltages to the ECU.

If that doesn't work, then consider chains etc.
