Car: Nissan Rogue

Post

For long and various complicated reasons, I shipped my Rogue to Kuwait this month. After finally completing the hassle of overseas (literally) shipping and registration my car is ready to be used! So last week I took it to my local Nissan dealer (we have only one, it's a small country), I was immediately met by the service supervisor and he told me that while they could do normal mechanical service, they wouldn't be able to diagnose the engine's computer for any updates or errors. While I did tell him it was okay, I would like to know if you guys have any experience and know if thats BS or they really can't access the computer.

Anyways, after getting over that I proceeded to get my car in for its regular service where I was quoted a fee "to put the car in the system" AKA a fine for not buying my car from them. I wouldn't have fussed about it if they were willing to do COMPLETE and regular maintenance for my car that only Nissan can do but to me this was unacceptable. I asked for the manager of the service and tried to explain to him how I can't accept a fee to service my car if they can't properly service my car, to which the manager basically told me that this fee is just pure profit for him and it has nothing to do with if he can service it or not. He said there is no way they will service my car without paying this fee and if I didn't like it then I could just take my car to any garage willing to work on my car. I totally didn't expect to hear this from him and just left before my temper got to me further.

I've emailed Nissan USA and Nissan Middle East explaining in more detail exactly what happened but still, I'm extremely disappointed by Nissan and their treatment of a loyal customer just trying to maintain his car as per Nissan's guidelines. I found a local garage to change my oil in the mean time, but I would much rather have all this done at Nissan so they can take car of any issues that might arise in the car and nip them in the bud.

Sorry for the rant but I thought anyone thinking of exporting their car out of North America might want to know about this!

Other thoughts:
-Does anyone have experience getting even numbered radio frequencies on the stock radio? Can't seem to find anything online.
-Also has anyone been able to change the speedometer? We use km/hr here instead of MPH and my car in in MPH so it's annoying.

Sorry to hear about your problems with dealers but we have jerks over here as well. You can complain about the dealership to Nissan but he puts the rules.
As for radio you will have to exchange with aftermarket one since that radio does not support even frequencies...it is simply not used in US.
Speedometer is available in km/hr from Canada. So try to look online at junk yards or auctions like ebay. I don't know what year do you have but here's for sale speedo panels for '11-12 in kmh if you willing to tear apart your speedometer: http://www.ebay.com/itm/LOCKWOOD-NISSAN ... 2575984e2b

While I understand your upset over your treatment, it has nothing to do with Nissan, but is a reflection on the individual you dealt with. Glad you kept your temper in check and didn't curse him with this oldie but goodie...

"May the fleas of a thousand camels infest the crotch of the person who screws up your day and may their arms be too short to scratch".

So I'm guessing driving to Manama, Bahrain or Doha, Qatar or even Riyadh, Saudi Arabia for service is out of the question. What are the prospects for finding a decent indie shop? Don't forget, your Rogue is designed for the North American market, the QASHQAI (sold over there) is just different enough for some mechanics to find all kinds of excuses to either weasel out of working on your vehicle or overcharging for any work they may do.

Oh, one final thing, you might want to find out what the local customs are in regards to haggling. While us Yanks don't really go in for it, it is commonplace in most other parts of the world, especially in the Middle East. That must of been one hell of a reason for shipping the car over there. I just can't see how it won't be much easier to sell your car and buy another one over there? You have your reasons though.
Sorry to hear about your troubles though :frown:
I wonder if the warranty is still accepted if you use the car in another country ie outside North America (Canada). I could see them saying oh you drove it in a desert of which the USA doesn't have a comparable climate.

Good luck hope you find a good mechanic over there.

Very curious as to why you would ship a Rogue to the Middle East. I'd probably prefer to have a car built/sold for the local market. Just seems easier. What maintenance is required for Nissan to do? I've never heard of such a thing.

Yeah, seriously, I like our Rogue as much as the next guy here, but going through all that for what is essentially a grocery-getter? We're not talking about a Ferrari, a Lambo or a 911.

And yes, obviously, they will not be able to perform much, if anything on it, as they simply do not have this model. The Qashqai is almost the same, yet different enough to cause many issues.

It's like shipping an Opel in the US, and then expecting a GM dealership in East Bumblef*ck to be able to fix it since GM sells Opels in Germany. Chances are, it won't work.

Ship it back, sell it, buy a diesel Qashqai. :)
