1989 240sx. Alright. Here's the story. Hooked up my stereo, amp, and subs.. Worked for a bit, switched amps, subs dont work and go into protection mode or just blare random bass and hit crazily. Switched back amps, same problem. Switched decks. Couldnt get new one to come on. So I tried hooking up the old deck and now it wont work at all.

I'm almost positive everything is hooked correctly. Only hesitance i have is with a wire coming from the deck labeled P. Cont. I'm not sure where it goes. The manual says "Connect either to the power control terminal when using the optional power amplifier, or to the antenna control terminal in the vehicle." I currently don't have it hooked to anything and i dont remember if it was in the first place.

The small wire running from my amp to the stereo (not sure the name) is currently hooked to a wire labeled "Amp turn on" , and it is on the bigger of the 2 plug ins of the wiring harness.

Any ideas would be great, I dont even care if the subs and amp wont work, I just wanna get my stereo running. I'm getting fed up with 240's and their pathetic reliability for anything.

Is your stereo unit grounded? Not being retarded, just trying to help.Hook up the "Amp Turn-On", blue/white wire, from stereo directlyto your amp. Make sure fuse on stereo is still good.I'm assuming that you bypassed the oem speaker wiring and all that??Did you hook up an a/m harness to the oem stereo harness?Check the ground / fuse on your amp. Also check the two (15Amp??) fuses under driver-side kick panel. One provides batt / memory and the other 12v acc.G/L

how are the subs wired? also, I would double check that none of the terminals on the interior speakers are touching metal, as that would cause the stereo to act erratic (no sound, popping fuses, intermittent sound, etc..)

Please explain to me how you halfassing your installation of your stereo system has anything to do with a 240sx's reliability? Let me guess you used nothing more than electrical tape for your connections and chopped your factory harness? Just for a good laugh post up a picture of your wiring i'd love a little entertainment.

I might have helped you out if you hadn't made such an idiotic statement implying that the car is unreliable because your not competent enough to properly install a basic stereo system.

P. Cont is the Remote Turn-On lead for your head unit, that should be hooked up to your amplifer, but even if that wasnt hooked up it certainly wouldnt be causing the problems you are describing...

what's the resistance of your subs? (ohm load)

In the harness for most nissans the ground wire runs to the harness plug (if you used one) and stops there. You have to ground to good clean metal.

First ,you should figure out your car's electrical problems before you start hooking anything up .I would start checking all your wires and grounds and repair with a soldering gun if necessary.

With theses older cars ,you have to do some research and learn the FSM in order to figure out most if not all your problems that may occur with your car.

Good luck

ok, here is a list of things id like to know, before trying to help you out...

1) Do you have a fuse on your power wire from the battery?

2) How did you route the power wire through the fire wall?

3) What gauge power wire and ground wires are you using for your amps?

4) what gauge wire did you use from amp to subs?

5) Where are your amps grounded too?

6) Did you wire your RCA cables next to the power wire?

7) did you check the fuses on the amp itself?

8) What is your Gain set on your amp?

9) what is your bass boost set at as well?

10) How did you connect the wires for the head unit? tape? wire nuts? etc....

11) where did you ground your head unit?

12) did you hook up the illumination wire?

13) did you seperately hook up the 12volt constant, and 12Volt switched properly?
