Wow this year has gotten off to a very bad start for my family.

One of my New Year's resolutions was to set aside enough money for a vacation to Cambodia so I could finally see my grandfather for the first time. Actually the whole family was pitching in the hopes that we could visit my parents' childhood villages. On New Year's day, my parents were shocked to hear that my grandfather (a quadriplegic for years) passed away.

I had only chatted with him briefly over the phone, but never had the chance to meet him...

His death was the only thing I could think of on my trek to Upstate, NY yesterday morning. My father and I needed to finalize a deal on a nice house over there. We were bombarded by more than a foot a snow and ended up crashing (and wrecking) our van only one mile away from the house.

We had to hitch a ride from a friend back home this morning.

Needless to say, it's been a difficult start to 2003 for my family. Hopefully, you guys have had better luck than I.

Sorry to hear about that. Before my great aunt passed away last year I put off seeing her b/c I didnt want to see her lying there or anything and after I got up enough nerve to see her she died like 2 weeks after. :(

I hope things get better for you in the long run of this year. :) Best wishes and good luck to you.

Soph - I'm thinkin' about you bud. Hope things get better soon.

BTW, I'm still on the hunt for an ECU. Went to look at a good candidate today (a wrecked 91 A) but the ECU had already been removed, the shop guy thought the TCU was the ECU...

Be safe out there.

That's very true. I am sorry for your loss. I hope that 2003 will continue to get better for you and your family. You certainly do deserve a good rest of the year.

Thanks for the words of encouragement guys. There's a whole slew of other things putting a major damper on my New Year as well but I'm doing fine. It's the rest of the family I'm worried about. But as they say, pardon the cliche, "time is the ultimate healer" all will be well again soon enough. Again, thanks for the consolation, you guys are the greatest!

Ninjak, cool avatar you got there. Princess Mononoke is without a doubt, one of the greatest animated films ever and a personal fav of mine.

I am also very very sorry for your new years.

Seems to dwarf my own mishap.

Wishing the very best for you and yours.

It's awful to hear that everyone's going through so much ****.

I couldn't say it any better than Former_240_S14 though. That saying is totally true.

Slw240sx, what happened to you and your mom's a real bummer. An uncle of mine was a slave to his company for nearly two decades but when downsizing became an easy answer to its problems, they didn't hesitate to let him go. In fact, they couldn't wait for him to leave and had the movers remove any remnant of him and his work before he even knew it. It hurts to know that so many people out there are considered as nothing more than an expendeble "cog in the wheel."

Also, don't worry bout the car bro. Cars come and go. With a little hard work, you'll get a nice red-top in there in no time!

As bleak as things have been, perseverence is one the greatest human assets. You can always start over...

Best wishes to everyone in this new (and young) year.
