Hey just wondering if a somewhat pinched vacuum line would cause a car to hold a higher idle after giving it some throttle?

When I start my car it will rev up to about 1500 then will hold for sometimes up to 30 seconds then drop back down to about 1000rpms then after a minute or 2 will go down to about 700rpms and hold a steady idle. Could it be a vaccum leak because when I had a leak in the intake manifold gasket itself it would stay revved up super high and then after a wyle drop back down? I think I may have a pinched vacuum line somewhere too but in order to get to it I have to pull the whole manifold to do it which dosent really fly right now. This problem is really starting to piss me off and I dont have the money to take it to a mechanic to do it and I hate driving the car how it runs.

I'll try taking a video tonight and posting it up so you can see exactly what im talking about but until then let me know your thoughts on what it might be?

Heres a crappy video of how the car is running....and the loud knocking sort of noise you hear inside the car is just from the vibration from the solid aluminum motor and trans mount so dont pay much attention to it.

Let me know what you guys think it could be and I'll try and get sum better video up later when my buddy brings over his camera

I dont think a pinched vacuum line would do what you are describing. Maybe a PCV leak?Is the idle good at 700, or does it shake? Also the knock you are getting sounds like maybe not enough oil is getting to the lifters. This is all based on experience I have had on my sr20det. I never worked on my KA24de, I had a mechanic do that.

Im starting to think the knocking noise may be coming from something that came loose from the solid motor and trans mounts I have which is causing the low rpm knock? Would a bad alternator give me a bad idle because when I push on the brakes the idle goes down a little?

what you're hearing is the rattle of death. please, tuck your spark plug wires in a neat fashion. it might touch the exhaust manifold and destroy them.

Knocking or rattle can can be caused by dirty valve lifters or stuck timing chain tensioner and the timing chain rubbing the giudes.Remove the timing chain guides (upper and side ONLY) and replace the timing chain tensioner at the same time for $55. You may want to replace the valve cover gasket if it is worn and leaking oil.Replace your oil filter with Purelator PureONE because FRAM is crap.Your vaccume is 100% leaking because the car has old and worn hoses. Buy some hoses, take down the intake manifold (1.5 Hr job) and replace ALL the vaccume hoses. You'll need a new intake manifold gasket ($6)Replace some coolent hoses if they are too worn to be reliable.
