so while back i had trouble starting and bad idle, find that fuel pressure is at 22psi, so replaced pump with walbro 255. starts up quick but still rough idle, find that my alternator is weak by connecting battery charger when running(runs nice and strong with bettery charger connected). to poor for a new alternator and months pass, then water pump goes out on the high way, sending my temp soaring. so replace water pump, spark wires(melted!), and thermostat. engine still overheats, but odly every now and then the engine would run horrible, with a crappy exaust note, maybe 10 minutes after this the problem dissapears. so i get the time to take of the head later, send to maching shop, warped and most of the valves leak, so valve job and resurface. head back on, pretty damn sure cam timing is good... and start her up, and the engine idles/runs horribly damn near if not the same same as it did before the head work, accept all the time now, not just intermitantly... seemed like timing problem so hooked up timing light and i'll hold pretty steady at 20 deg, until i otouch the throttle and it'll dive retarding something around 30-40 degrees then make its way back to 20, opening the throttle more sends it advancing way past 20deg(not sure if this is normal). driving it has horrible pick up and past 2000rpm it'll smooth out but still lacking power. pushing the clutch in and letting off the gas will send the rpm's diving most of the time stalling and sometimes just almost stalling...so i know the alternator is a problem but the major problem still exists even with battery charger connected(though it wont stall with it connected, just dive low) so im thinking distibutor, maybe a cam is off by a link... dont think its the iacv because the problem continues past idle, with tps disconnected, (locking the iacv and crank position sensor in place, well unless cps is sending faulting signal)any thoughts??? need your help guys!
