i need my horn to pass inspection which was in december so i really need to figure this out.

i was wondering if anyone with an electrical meter that can do continuity could help me. i don't think i'm getting power to my horn relay. i tested the continuity from the positive battery post through to my relay. instead of there being continuity between the battery and the #1 on the relay, which is the power, there was continuity between battery and the #3 which is supposed to be the switch. does this sound like just the wires are switched or is that how it's supposed to be? and am i supposed to be getting power at the relay all the time, or just when the circuit completes? if anyone could check their own horn that works and let me know that would be great.

i know nothing about dc voltage in cars and how the low voltage circuits work, i only know some about ac voltage, so if i'm totally off on this i would appreciate knowing how to do it.

assuming here you have checked the horn fuse.

first make sure your horn works. run a jumper wire from you poistive battery cable to the horn[connect to battery first then touch horn with other end, dont want arching at the battery]if it honks horn is good.

then check your relay. how many terminals does your horn relay have 3 or 4?

the fuse is good, the horns themselves work when i jump them out. i just bought a new relay from nissan, it's a 3 prong black relay and it still doesn't work.

i checked the wires up to the relay and the #1 and #3 wires were switched for some reason. i put them to how they are supposed to be and now the relay clicks like it's supposed to, but the horn still doesn't work. i tore the steering wheel apart and didn't notice anything wrong, although i didn't really examine the pad contacts all that well. i'll take a look at that tomorrow. if it's not that i guess i'm gonna go to the local upullit junkyard and get a new combination/horn switch.

if your relay clicks when you push the horn button that means everything in the car is working. sounds like you have a wiring issue between the relay and the horn.I know this will sound stupid, buuuuttt I wouldnt ask unless it happened.[dont ask :rolleyes] you did plug the horns back in after you manually tested them right?

Check the ground on the horn pad that connects to the frame of the steering wheel.

the relay didn't click when i pushed the horn button, it clicked if i would take the fuse in or out. i later found out the two wires i thought were switched were correct, like i said i know nothing about dc wiring. ok i bought a horn switch from the junkyard and put it in, and it still didn't work. we checked power to the relay and still none. we then ran a test wire from battery to power on relay and the horn finally worked! so it was a combination of the horn switch and something with the power wire from the battery to the relay. so i bought one of those add a circuit fuse accesory fuses and crimped the wire to that and ran it over to the relay. thanks for your suggestions guys
