I AM TRYING TO RESTORE MY 240 CONVERTIBLE IT HAS SURVIVED 3 TEENAGERS AND 180,000 MILES, RUNS GREAT AND MECHANICALLY MAINTAINED FOR MY WIFE AND I. THE HORN BEGAN GOING OFF BY ITSELF, I DETERMINED IT WAS THE INSULATION IN HORN PAD ALLOWING THE CONTACTS TO TOUCH. I REMOVED THE HORN REINSULATED THE BAD PARTS OF THE INSULATING PAD, TESTED IT WITH A METER. WHEN I WENT TO TRY THE HORN IT DID NOT WORK OF COURSE. I FOUND THE 10A FUSE WAS BLOWN. I REPLACE THE FUSE AND STILL NO HORN. THE CAR IS GARAGED RIGHT NOW, BUT IT SEEMS THE BATTERY I POSSIBLY GOING DEAD, IT IS NOT A NEW BATTERY SO I DO NOT KNOW IF ITS RELATED OR COINCIDENCE. CAN SOMEONE TELL ME HOW TO TROUBLE SHOOT THIS, I CANNOT MOVE ON WITH MY REFURBISHING TIL I GET THE HORN FIXED, THANK YOU.

try checking your relay, it might be sticking. also after the relay check out the wiring harness in the drivers fender(take out the fender liner) and see if its damaged...some wires could be broken and touching.

visual check ground at the horns& horn to relay (green wire)(check voltage drop or resistance)

fuse to relay (green/black wire) for voltage drop or ressitancevisual check relay connection

switch to relay ( green/white wire)are you getting voltge when you close the horn switch? is it grounded?

if your get b+ at g/w and g/b wire when the switch is closd but not at the relay to horn. its probably the relay . but if your are getting power to the horn, its probably horn or horn ground problm.

im just learning this stuff and maybe be off. but im trying to help as must as i can so i can get better at this.

When reinstalling the horn make sure not to screw it onto a place thats solid like your frame, because the horn needs to be able to vibrate a little bit for it to sound. Thats why theyre attatched to a small metal tab.
