Yesterday after taking the under panel for the hood, and doing some cleaning of my hood and the panel, the panel starting falling apart from just the soap and water, maybe all the hot temperatures thru the years. Now the question is for you guys that dont use one at all, does the heat of the engine affects the underside of the hood at all???...I might just trashed and I dont really feel like buying a new one.....just worry about the heat scorching the paint on the underside of my hood......

When the man at the body shop primered my car he took the under liner off and I guess he figured I wouldn't miss it, so he trashed it. I bought the Dynamat kit for under the hood and I haven't had any heat problems, and it does a pretty good job cutting down engine noise.

THat dynamat kit sounds interesting, I might check into that....thanksI know it gets pretty hot under the hood and it might be a matter of time before paints starts bubbling.........

The engine gets a lot hotter than it would just sitting in the sun. I wouldn't worry about it too much unless you get an SR or something else(like a turbo) that runs extremely high temps.

Last time I messed with my valve cover, it was hot, I have the scars to prove it... the SOHC valve cover gets hot enough to fry an egg...

mines been off for 2.5 years of hard driving and mines black. It doesnt make a difference unless you have have turbo.

So say you were running a SR with turbo, what should you worry about heat wise? And what should I do to prevent any problems?

lets put it this way.tons of people with Sr turbo motors run fiberglass or carbon hoods. these don't come with the material you speak of. their hoods don't get burned through.

It doesn't even really make that huge of a difference unless your pulling long laps with a top mount manifold when the heat of the exhaust housing is right next to the hood. even then you could get the turbo wrap that is sold. I don't think you have anything to worry about.
