Maybe someone can help me here. I have a 92 Q45t. A few months ago I noticed that the hood was slightly bulging on the passenger side along the edge where the hood strut is attached. With slight pressure pushing down it would go away. Now after having opened and closed the hood a few times I am now noticing a slight indentation where the flexing is occurring. On the underside of this point, just in front of the strut attachment point the hood structure is slightly dented from the flexing.

What would cause this? Is the strut so old that it is actually getting to where it is taking more force to retract it and the hood is taking the toll? I thought that these struts would wear out and get to where they wouldn't hold the hood up anymore not get harder to close.

What gives?

That was it. Lubed up the hinges with some lithium grease, worked the hinges several times and all is good again. I removed one of the struts, the one on the passenger side that I thought was bad. With only one strut holding up the hood the hood would stay wherever you left it. After lubing the hinges the hood would not stay up at all with only one strut.

Thanks for the responses.

Lubing the supports will reduce the friction and take care of the hood situation, but the negative side effect is most hoods are already damaged due to the bending or flexing at that point. The reason that area of the hood gets damaged ( that is a weak or hinge point fabricated into the metal from the factory), it is supposed to be a safety item in case the vehicle is involved in a front end collision, the hood will buckle at that hinge point and not go through the windshield and cause bodily harm.:)

Early Q hood struts almost never fail unlike Toyota/Lexus where almost every old [older than 6 years] LS we see has bad struts [the hood won't stay open without a stick [very dangerous for owner]...........and tech.
