I would love to have struts on my hood too. That is one of several things I am disappointed with on my 2001 QX4. I also have a 2001 F250 and it has struts on the hood. It also has a gas mileage computer. The technology that was lacking in Infiniti at the time is surprising.
Uh oh. You just got me started.
First off, the truck as a whole does work fairly well. But... in many ways it's close to a bottom feeder but with leather and a near $40K price tag when new.
The prop rod is, or should have been embarrassing to the people who made it. The mickey mouse button you have to push for the gas door. Drum brakes and a solid axle in back? No trip computer, at all? That climate control system surely designed by some guy in a cubical who never drove in this country. Cone and cup wheel bearings in front, not a sealed bearing? Doors that won't stay open on a 1% grade? No
One Wipe position on the WW switch? Never mind the funky plastic body cladding that is the biggest QX4 visual difference, IMO it looks like it's puffing it's cheeks out like a little kid.
But in spite of it's numerous failings, or at least weaknesses, I'd say it's more than the sum of it's parts, unlike some cars I've driven, most recently a '12 VW Passat, (or numerous GM products) which had many nice parts, but they didn't work together.
