hood shocks

does anyone make an aftermarket hood shock for the 2003 g sedan. i hate the arm that you have to manually use to hold the hood open. will any aftermarket shock work, with is their a specific one?

I could never figure out why a 40,000 dollar car has a stick to hold the hood up...

I've seen a few websites that have 'em, but it was a little expensive for underhood convenience.

I just replaced a set on my Maxima. I would really prefer a hood rod. Hood shocks are just more parts to go bad and need replacing at some point. They cost me a little over $100 shipped, but that's $100 I could have spent elsewhere for something I'll have little real need for. A hood rod does the job just fine and is not worth the extra cost of replacement to me. Granted they should last a while, I really wouldn't care if a car had them or not. Definitely not worth the money and effort IMO.
