Hood rust on 240sx

Just bought a mostly clean and rust free '93. The only exception was a few rust spots on the hood (rock chip?) I started to scrape the rust and scraped right through the skin. Pulled the underhood sound deadening material and found the cause. The goo that Nissan used to glue the frame to the skin appears to be corrosive. There's significant rust under/around every glob of goo under the hood, but no where else. The corners and hinges are clean, as are all the folded edges. Is this common/universal?Thanks!

Yeah, I got the same thing on my 92. Seems like a good excuse to get a VIS carbon hood!
