We leave our hood propped open so cats won't jump on the hood and scratch it or get paw prints on it. We had up to 60mph winds yesterday and when we came home the hood is shut and the prop is on the ground. I know where the prop goes at, but I can't find any type of clips to keep it from falling out, I also cannot see a place on the prop where a clip would go. Can someone help me out here or take a picture of what theirs looks like. Thanks.

The plain metal end of the prop rod simply fits through a bushing in the passenger-side front crossmember. There is no retaining clip. If you line up the rod as it would normally lay when down, you should be able to spot the bushing very easily.

Given the light weight of the hood I don't think I'd leave the hood open when not around - any wind at all will flap the hood. I also think worse things could happen with the engine compartment wide open anyway.

ok thanks for your help.

We never get any wind, this was just a weird day, if I were at home I would have put it down. I've lifted the hoods on my last 3 trucks and one was a show truck that was in 3 magazines and I never had a problem out of them, I'd say that the Altima hoods aren't as strong though.

It's under a carport so it's not exposed to the weather. It won't hurt anything under the hood. I've been working on vehicles for the last 10 years and have yet to have an engine problem from the hood being up.

FTMFW!!!! If your gonna get those, you might as well get some other parts too. I suggest the Eibach kit, its a must on these cars.

They're easy to fab up, you just need the right size gas struts. I made a set for my show truck.

This is where the grommet should be right? I guess I'll look around for it, but I'll probably see if the hardware store has one that'll fit.
