hey, just wondering if anyone has installed some. I live in a town that was ranked in the top 5 cities for auto theft (I WANNA SAY IT WAS NUMBER 1, BUT DON'T QUOTE ME) and security has moved up right next to the mods I want to do. Alarms, wheel locks, and hood pins are what I've been thinking about recently. ANYWAy....any one have some installed? How's it look?

lolI used to think the pins were to stop a hood from flying off during a race...I would get some if I knew how they worked.

ROFL!

but seriously... if you're trying to keep people out of your hood... lock your car. Hood pins are racing equipment... unless you're going to secure them with padlocks... Still, they'd have to hack into your hood and/or grill to get into your engine bay... or just break a window and pop the hood... then the pins (secured with padlocks) would provide one more obstacle...

What would one have to do to get a hood open from the outside? There's a pretty strong latch there... is it able to be tripped if you break through the grill?

kimber, it actually isn't easy to open it...unless im doing something wrong, buti currently have my grille off to put my new bumper on it, but you can feel where that little hinge thing is although you cannot open the hood.i would get those pin things, but PADLOCKS?!?!??!wow they are heavy lol

I only mentioned padlocks because i don't see how hood pins would increase the security of the hood... (I'm glad you can't find an easy way to release the hood with the grill off... that would be silly)

Hood pins are usually only meant to hold a lightweight, carbon fiber hood down while at track events... or so I thought... I was just trying to come up with a way that hood pins would actually add to security...

that's all I got.

hood pins are a replacement/added hood lock along with the hood latch. Some people get them for looks, others with a c/f hood get them so they dont have to worry about there latch breaking and the hood flying up on you. Yes they are also widely used on track courses for easy hood poping/securing your hood down.

For the thought of hood pins on a versa just cracks me up tho . The OEM hood latch is damn strong (plus getting through the grill is tough as well). I really dont see the versa being a car that would be stolen very frequently (I sold my other car because of thefts to get a low key car haha)

I would just weld the hood shut and just ram a pipe through the hood to facilitate adding oil. After all, the damn thing's virtually maintenance free... (seriously, don't do this!)

If you want something that's not tacky that will ACTUALLY provide security for your car, get something like a Ravelco anti-theft device. It's basically a secondary physical key that provides a bypass to the ignition system. You can't hotwire a car that has a Ravelco installed without uninstalling it and rewiring it back the way it was, and NO thief on the planet is going to take the time to do that.

Just to bring this up quickly.

They do make hood pins that would add some security as they have them that lock and require a key to open.

But hood pins on a V, not without necessity of it being there. I have them on my coupe, can't say I like the look, but they serve a purpose.
