so has anyone ran into hood problems with the vh s14, cause i have the same hood as gs14racer and i cant get it to fit for s***! i had to make 1 1/4" spacers in the rear and cut the skeleton out from under the hood and custom build a metal brace for the hood! the only other option was to shim the front crossmember down about a half an inch? any suggestions or info would be greatly appreciated. thanks :wtf2:

Won't shimming the subframe cause more problems than it will solve?

It will drop the engine down, I don't know how much downward clearence your headers have but it seems that would be messed up. Especially since your car is near complete.

I also think it will screw up your suspension geometry. I could be wrong here because it has been awhile since I looked at what parts of the suspension key off the sub frame.

yea i think it would mess up the geomtry of the suspension. i wouldnt want to touch the subframe. i was thinking of maybe adding a spacer to hood hinges so it lifts up the hood abit. should give about 1/4 of an inch space. how bad is your hood hitting? i see you were able to close your hood. what seemsto be the problem ?

I know it will throw the geometry off but I can always realign the car and I have roll center adjusters on my spl outer tie rods, and the car has like close to 5 inches of ground clearance. And as for the pics of the hood on and closed was after paint and no motor in the car! Trust me I've shimmed the hood 1.5 " the first time and that pulled the d ring away from the latch and caused all kinds of problems, then I hacked the skeleton out of the hood and braced it, and stepped down to 1.25" spacers and it just barely cleared with some minor issues! So at this point if I could drop the subframe a .25" to a .50" it would probably work out! The minute amount of subframe drop would translate to alot at the d ring/latch!

Did u ask gs14racer on what he did? He seems to be the leader of the pact in a s14 lol.

I was just thinking of forking out the 700 for the origin hood. I think that would give plenty of clearance I hope : P

I know this is an old thread, but what was the answer to this question? What motor mounts were you using? I am using the Xcessive mounts and noticed that they are no where near what Jerry (gs14racer) used in his build. That may be why his engine is sitting a little lower.

I'm using the mazworx mounts and I have like a 1/4" of space below my pan and the crossmember!

spacing the subframe messes with the suspension geometry, about as much as lowering your car does. literally.

if you have adjustable tension rods, there is NOTHING that cannot be fixed with an alignment.

i dropped my subframe down 1/2" and i lengthened the steering shaft 1/2" to compensate.

this plus removing the skeleton under the hood, AND grinding off the notches on the intake manifold, it should fit with NO problems.

but dont believe anyone who clearly doesnt understand how this works..

also, the headers wont change, seeings as the engine is mounted TO THE SUBFRAME, how would the headers clearance change at all
