Despite following the ideal way to drive in traffic, I don't see this system getting much use in heavily congested areas
The concept of leaving a cushion in front of you is kind of like the concept of communism...if everyone isn't behind it and doing the exact same thing, it fails (I don't know if I screwed that analogy up or not) But in a perfect world (In which everyone doesn't drive in traffic like a Tetris game) we would save a looooot of money in gas, insurance rates (Less accidents), and time wasted sitting in traffic.

I'll tell you how to avoid congestion and tailgating:
FIND YOUR EFFING ACCELERATOR PEDAL AND PUT YOUR FOOT ON IT.

f*** LEXUS DRIVERS.

When I can accelerate to 55 from 5mph in fifth gear faster than the bulk of traffic, there is something WRONG with how people drive.

Oh, I completely agree. People failing to accelerate to freeway speeds to be able to merge coming off an on-ramp causes most of the congestion. This causes a domino effect that forces people to brake in order to merge.

Part of that problem though, at least here in AZ (don't know if other states have these as well), is that during rush hour they turn on those stop lights RIGHT at the entrance to the freeway. So, you're literally 30 yards away from being able to merge into traffic, and have to STOP. WTF? Now I have to put the f*** hammer down to speed back up to freeway speed in order to merge in. That's great for my gas mileage. :tisk:

From what I've seen over here in Vancouver, traffic tends to crawl on the highways because of merging.

People should leave lots of room between each cars. That way, when someone is gonna merge, they have more time to accelerate and merge quickly. I'm talking about 1/8 mile between each car, it'll never happen though.

But back to the actual tail-gating issue, it's necessary here in AZ. Leave any semblance of a gap between yourself and the vehicle in front of you, and you can expect some assmonger to whip right in, 4 inches away from your front bumper.

Sadly, that's the way most people see as the correct way to drive (Or required). Herd mentality and all that noise. Even so, I hold the torch for the gappers. With a super stiff clutch it's just easier to crawl along at 5pmh than to go 10-1-10mph constantly
Though I do stick to the right hand land (Might also have to do with the fact that at 70mph I'm spinning at 4k rpm and rattling my spine out my anus)

They make decent cars every day. That is their business model. What they need is a great car.

^^Agreed. They did make great cars which is mostly why I'm upset.
