well, i was cleaning the garage and going through massive amounts of old parts from friends and i got bored, so i thought i'd throw something together, this is the front pipe from a honda civic dx (EG).

kinda gives a ram-air effect, heh

ok, so its not really 'homemade,' but i was just messin around, but i may cut it at a better angle so the filter is moved 2-3" to the right so it completely fills the opening next to the foglight. The pipe can be had for $40 from http://www.airdynamicracing.com with filter and hose fittings...i think its still 40 for the civic...

doesnt really do anything for power, just was fun to make, its a lil louder too. There's too long of a path for a ram-air setup, and the route isnt that direct, so dont expect big power gains from anything similar, an intake is pretty much an intake, plain and simple...

Not to mention it's drawing cold air... that has to do something for performance... ;)

don't go anywhere near water with that thing, that's all I have to say... a dense fog would cause hydrolock :pface:

Nah.. it's not that low. If the filter was low enough to hydrolock, water would be high enough to fill his interior with water :( and I'm sure he wouldn't drive it under those conditions.

hahaha, have any of u guys ever experienced hydro lock? it really has to be wet to do it, we had one car with an intake hydrolock... the filter had a constant stream of water coming off it... dense fog would have to be so dense that it would get heavy and fall to the earth as rain... i was just bored, thats why i did it, havent had a chance to really see if it did anything... but i doubt it.

My old focus hydrolocked on me out on 151st street when it rained for like 2 days straight here in Olathe. First time I have ever had that actually happen to me.

Did it hydrolock or just stall and refuse to work until the filter was dried and or replaced? Typically hydrolocking destroys the motor.

that part was a joke, to clarify :)

I personally would be worried with it that low because if you hit a good sized puddle it could be real bad news... especially since you said there really weren't any performance gains. I worry about these things though. ;)

yeah i rotated the heatshield, i rushed the pics b4 i got it fitting real nice, i also cut up a hose to act as a buffer around the opening to keep the metal rubbing together. it almost fills the whole next to the foglight completely...

like i said, havent really gotten a chance to test it, but it was fun to make, im not leaving it on long, i just like being able to make stuff with wat ive got.

on my 97 i removed the air box and put a filter on and left the air dam thing that pulls air from the front of the car untill i can buy an intake.
