Hey Rob what are you using for a fuel system?

Or you could get a bleeder valve-type MBC for $50 or less and it'd work better, be more reliable, and look much better. Here's a good one: http://www.dejontool.com/DSM-MBC.htmYeah, I know it's a DSM site, but it'll work.

My bad. Actually those restrict the amount of pressure the wastegate sees until the desired boost is reached, wheras a bleeder type just creates a leak so the wastegate doesn't see as much pressure.

Ball and spring > bleeder valve.

Ball and spring will spool faster.

How does a Ball and spring make it spool faster?

a ball and spring controller keeps the wastegate valve closed until desired boost pressure is reached, unlike a bleed valve

^ Plus you aren't losing pressurized air like you do w/ a bleeder valve, so there's less lag. The ball and spring just places a restriction in the pressurized air that the wastegate sees. The ball is held in place by a spring, and when the desired boost is reached air pressure overcomes the pressure of the spring and the ball moves, allowing air to reach the wastegate.

Oh, I was thinking weird, why dont people just buy an electric boost controller? Or get a stock solenoid unit and wire it up to a standalone like me?

Because if the electronic boost controller fails, or power to it fails, you get a lot more boost than you'd like, and risk detonation when you go past your fuel system's limits.

http://www.mcmaster.com sells ball and spring relief valves for around $7. Just need to tap the relief port to screw a nipple into it. Works on a 0-20psi range. Part no. 48935K25
