All,

I have a 2008 SL that has Homelink
We are in the process of getting a new 2015 SL w/premium.

The new SL does not come with Homelink, only an auto-dimming mirror. (its a 400$ option)

That being said, would it be possible to simply swap these? We are selling the old Rogue to someone we know and who does not care about the garage door opener.h

My main question is will it work? I know homelink needs to be plugged in somehow. Would the connector currently in place in the 2015 (for the auto dimming mirror) work? Would be awesome if it were that simple and just swap them.

Thanks for any input.

I don't have a 2015 to check to see if the wiring harness is in place but... there is nothing specific to the car that makes the Homelink mirrors work. All the programming functionality of the Homelink system is located in the mirror itself. "If" there is a connector/plug near or behind the mirror of a new 2015 and it will plug into your old mirror then yes, it will work. NOTE: Just make sure the "mounting lugs" (the metal tabs that are glued to the windshield in both cars) is the same shape and design. If the lugs on the windshields are totally different then you may be out of luck. The good news Nissan mirror lugs have been pretty standard so I don't really think the lugs will be an issue but check just to be sure.

Even if there isn't a power plug / connector in the 2015... all you have to do is run power to the mating connector to make your old mirror work in your new car. (NOTE: If there isn't a plug connector in your new 2015 you can cut off the plug connector / wiring harness leading to the mirror in your old 2008. Just be sure the power is off when you cut the plug off and be sure to leave yourself plenty of wire to work with. Then be sure to tape and insulate the loose ends of the wires in your 2008 so they don't short out and tuck them into the headliner to hide them. FYI: In the 2008/2009 etc SL models there was an access panel in the headliner near the mirror where you could tap into 12V power. If the access panel isn't in the 2015 models you can always drop the map light assembly to access power.

The Homelink mirrors aren't cheap. If it were me...and the new owner of your 2008 Rogue doesn't care I would swap out the mirrors regardless... even if the wiring isn't in the 2015. You can always look into hooking it up later when you have more time to research the project.

Sorry, no they're not a straight swap. Did you do a search of this forum for posts on the subject?
