I tried to set up the Homelink in my wife's new Altima and couldn't get it to work. I decided to see when I had the garage door opener installed and low and behold I had it done in 1982. I guess it has been a good one but must be to old to work with the Homelink.

Been thinking about getting rid of the screw drive Genie because of the noise so I guess this will be a good incentive to do so.

Any recommendations on a type of door opener-screw drive-chain-or belt?

Hey Deke I had a Chamberlain Liftmaster Forumla 1 -belt drive installed about 6 months ago and it works fine with the Altima homelink system. I had an old one like you, but it was starting to give me problems, once the electric cicuit starts to go, it would sometime not open....so I replaced it.

good luck

Interesting how some things revolve around the new things we bring into our life. Buy a new car....have to buy a new garage door opener to use the feature

I have a car port type of garage with no door unfortunately. Good luck on your hunt!

I finally retried programing the homelink and got it working. On my old remote you had to click it twice to close. I finally figured our if I clicked the homelink and held it a second or two between the two clicks I could get it to close.

Since I am such a perfectionest I opened and closed it one too many times and heard a loud pop and the motor was smoking. I looked up the date on the old Genie 820 and found out I had it installed 25 years ago.

Called and got a price of $295 for a Liftmaster 3280 belt drive installed with two remotes. The funny thing is that the old Genie cost $268 installed 25 years ago.

Thanks for the info.

PS-Got the Liftmaster installed and programed the homelink in the Altima and everything is working great. Sure is way quite than the old Genie screw drive.
