I was just wondering if anyone here has pictures of their home made air intake install, and if you have instructions, that would be great. And my car is a 1992 240sx SE 5-seed ka24de

Here's the link for a S14 short intake install:http://www.240sx.org/links/ins...x.htm

I did a similar install on my '93 KA24DE and it was probably the best mod I have done yet. The only supplies I used were a few PVC elbows (suggest black color) and a short length of battery cable from NAPA.

I'll see if I can get you some pics tomorrow.

i like that...

someone done this in a Ka24e, 1990?

i would like to see some pics, and instructions, i think is not really hard to do it...

did you get more performance?

i can't see why anyone would want that would that not give you hotter air into the intake?

not if you already disconnected the resonator

it shortens the length of the intake which means its easier to pull air in, which means you will have better throttle response. possibly a little hp increase as well.

where is the resonator, what does it look like, wat does it do, and why would you remove it? thanks.

The resonator is located under the car, it is a part of the exhaust system near the catalytic converter. They tend to be smooth and cylindrical in shape. I'm not a 100% sure but I'm pretty sure the resonator is just a secondary muffler (just to keep engine quiet). The reason for removing is to make your exhaust louder and to give it less resistance=very slight hp gain

correct me if I'm wrong.

I have noticed a 5-7 hp gain and a huge gain in throttle response because the air does not have to travel the extra 3-4 feet.

In response to drift-sx, the short intake will be pulling in colder air than an AEM or Injen intake, because those grab hotter air from the exhaust side of the engine. They also do not eliminate the long tube that the air must travel down.

p00t may have also been talking about the air box (sometimes called a resonator) which is designed to quiet the intake side of the engine, but who wants that?

orion had some good pics here: http://www.nissaninfiniticlub....ntake especially the second one, because removing the battery pan lets you grab air from the intake in the bumper. (on the S13)

You will run into a problem moving the battery where the stock airbox was, but you only need to pull up the relay box (pull hard and it will come) and push it aside. Then connect the positive cable to the stock wire, and connect the negative to the engine block.

agreed with poot. the resonator is an assembly that attaches to the airbox (should be underneath it) which quiets down the car and limits you.

on the 240sx.org install, the guy put filters on the vacuum lines, are those performance enhancing at all or just for looks? how did you guys connect the vaccum lines to the intake?

all it does is quiet the air flowing into the air box. No performance gains by simply taking it out, just makes the intake louder

the resonator blocks colder air from coming in. id think theres some definite improvements in performance.

BE CAREFUL - the vacuum lines must be attached to the intake somewhere after the MAS (Mass Air Sensor). When the throttle is closed, the butterfly valve is completely sealed, and air must enter the intake through the vacuum lines. If the lines are not after the MAS, the ECU will register zero airflow, and will try to match this with zero fuel, causing the engine to stall.

The large tube that connects to the resonator does not have to be attached for this to work. Also, the vacuum line to the AIV does not have to be attached if you remove the AIV and seal the tube going back to the exhaust. Check here: http://www.nissaninfiniticlub....26150
