I am going to add the Home Link (garage door opener) to my 1993 Q45. Despite the fact that I have no garage door to open or a garage I think it will look nice and modernize the 90-96 Q45.

Basically I went down to the junk yard and found me a nice FGY33 Q45 that had a bad owner (Cash for morons) and I pulled off the home link transmitter which was a pain to do but I got it done. Now this summer I will incorporate it into my Q45. The only question is where to mount it: The drivers visor (OEM on the FGY33-F50 Q45) or behind the sun roof controls.

All the home link needs is a constant power (So not to lose the garage door opener code...) and a ground

Now I know some of you think "Why is he "modernizing" the Q45 and not let it be the way it is.": Well I ask that every day to myself and I have yet to come up with an answer. I do admit my Q45 is no where Denis's is but its not a Piece Of Crap either. but I like making things better. Hell if I could put two head on a human I would do it but then I would want it too look good, because sometimes two brains are better than one.

I'm 99% sure Homelink does not require power to retain programming. Memory should be non-volatile. Most writeups for Homelink swaps/installs I've seen suggest using accessory power and not always-hot dome-light power. Most modern vehicles actually cut power even to "always hot" accessories like the dome light a few minutes after the key is removed in order to prevent killing the battery anyway.

My big complaint with homelink transmitters is that many of them must have all codes programmed at once...which is not physically possible if you want access to multiple separate rolling-code openers. Very bad design. If you program the remote for one opener, then drive to the location of the 2nd (you must be within transmit range of a rolling code opener to program for it) and program that one, the first code will be erased. Why they chose to set the devices up that way is beyond my comprehension. I doubt I'm alone in having multiple and distantly separated rolling-code openers I'd like to have programmed to the one device.

Well my laptop was destroyed so all my idea, things I wanted to fix and buy for the Q and much much more are gone. I have no idea if the drive is in good shape or not so it will be a while before I can continue any other projects.

So for now I have this and to light up the center console ans sun roof buttons in a way similar to the vent lights. As all my other projects and info on them are lost for now.

Buddy of mine passed out on a little table that the laptop was on, crushing it. So the screen is dead as well as the keyboard, its just a paper weight. I need to see if the Hard Drive is good or not because if its bad he is....
