I own a 2008 Nissan Versa S, well, I thought until I read my registration!! I bought the car and it didnt have S or SL badged on it. Is it possible I have an SL? And the car is Airstream Metallic Silver, not GREY!!

Everything in US is set by VIN number. Canada I would think would be the same.

So having a VSL as a model is saying I have a VERSA SL?

Marc,

From what I learnt when looking for our V. If your car has a 4 speed auto it, it likely isn't an SL. The SL's only come with CVT. 4 speed auto not an option in a SL.

There is no real way of telling what anything on that form stands for without asking someone in the DMV (or whatever Canada calls it).

The govt doesn't keep names/etc the same as car companies. Hence they don't use the paint code, they use simple words, like grey.

And I believe all SLs had an SL badge, a lot of Ss did not have a badge.

Ok, thanks guys. How can you tell if you have the CVT transmission? I have been getting the CVT mileage and the car I bought was sent from Nissan as the TEST DRIVE car, maybe Nissan put the transmission in the S model so that when people drove it they got nice results to upsell the Versa?

I'm not flaming here, but are you serious?

Ok, here ya go: Does your car "shift" when you drive it? Do you feel a perceptible shift as the RPM's climb, or does the tach go to a set point and stay there as you accelerate?

CVT is very similar to driving a golf cart - One "gear", inifinitely variable. Thus: Continuously Variable Transmission, or CVT.

Nope, she drives like a standard. The higher the RPM the faster you are going! Just thought there might have been a Nissan Selling Strategy, although they never got the chance to use it as a test driver. I almost rather it without the CVT, I am getting the mileage of one.

Right, but do you feel shifts?

BTW, the CVT is only available on the SL.

SL has alloy wheels, S has hubcaps. SL also has a rear-seat armrest, S does not. There are lots of other differences, but they're confounded by the existence of certain packages Nissan offered.

Here ya go, MV:

6 CD changer with AUX jack or no? Map lights/overhead sunglass holder or no?u[graded seats or plain cloth?

just a few of the differences between the SL and the S.

Can't see Nissan putting a CVT in an "S"

HAHA, ROTFLMAO Thats unbelievably good AZ, now that I respect!! Making the best of a situation. Maybe I do have a TIIDA Type-R. Can the CVT be a simple in and out procedure? I know I dont have the SL, but you never know with a gonna be test car. What are the main visual differences between the 2 transmission's? I will try to get the number off mine in the near future just to check and see, curious thats all.

Look at the shifter. "PRND21" = 4-speed Automatic. "PRNDL" = CVT.

To tell you the truth, I looked in that well-hidden place that no one ever considers to find that information. The owners manual!

That's because you won't ever catch me driving one.

Until they build one with RWD and 300+ hp....

I actually read in a newspaper that Nissan put 42 cvt transmission's in S models to increase the MPG to get people to buy one. You probably got one of those.

The shifter itself shouldn't have to tell you if you have a CVT or not. It's pretty obvious when your car sits at one rpm accelerating and you never feel it shift. Regular automatics drive like manuals. The difference between driving a CVT and regular auto is huge.

Where did you read that my friend? Holy ****, so then it is possible I have a CVT transmission then? Can anyone from Canada with an Automatic tell me what pattern their shifter gears are in, IE: PRND21

THE CAR NEVER SHIFTS IF YOU HAVE THE CVT, NEVER. THERE ARE 2 GEARS IN A CVT. FORWARD AND REVERSE. I THOUGHT YOU WERE SOME SORT OF SMART CAR GUY, AND YOU CANT TELL IF YOUR CAR SHIFTS OR NO????????

BLOODY HELL.

If you can't tell the difference from driving it, I don't know what to say.

My neighbor's 16 year old daughter could tell the difference when she droove a CVT Sentra.
