Putting dye in it would be an epic practicle joke. It could be mud or clay, or knowing china its probly rat blood and nuclear waste.

I sailed up that river several years back in the Navy en route to Shanghai.

I remember we had lots of cleaning to do on our sea water pump filters. Stuff was nasty.

Seems a bit bright to be natural. My guess is it's some sorta waste byproduct from a manufacturing plant upriver. I suspect their environmental laws, if any, are selectively enforced at best.

Of course, folks here don't seem to mind the opague water in the Hudson River or the dumped medical waste that washes daily up on the Jersey Shore.
