Hi!

Since I bought my new Versa in June 08, it had horrible gas mileage.

Summertime, a/c off, no city driving, no stop signs and 2000 rpm all the way to work gave me a steady 23 mpg. I was angry and pissed off at the car. I wanted to burn it or sell it.

But....Since my second oil change @11000km, things have changed. I cannot believe my eyes how much of a sudden improvement happened. The last four fill-ups ranged 29.4 mpg to 31.2 mpg. Winter tires and -10C or under.

Can this be due to the second oil change or what? I did not change anything in my driving habits and always fill-up at the same station too.

This is pretty wierd. Now I like my car. lol

I experienced the same thing, but I expected it. It takes time for bearings and rings to wear in; once this occurs, friction is reduced dramatically. You also have other components that require some time to "break in," such as drivetrain components, transmission, etc. There is also one factor that is often overlooked; the driver! That's right; it can take time for the driver of a new vehicle to get used to the handling, acceleration characteristics, and braking characteristics of a vehicle. If you're new to a manual, and just bought a car w/ manual transmission, it'll take time for you to get used to shifting and clutching properly.

Glad to hear, hope it continues that way for you!

Our Versa, which regularly returns around 30 MPG in town, only got around 25-26 MPG on the first few tanks. It gradually crept up to a steady EPA-beating average over a couple thousand miles.

Like Bishop said, 'break-in' is a pretty slow process, with changes in efficiency occurring well beyond the manufacturer's break-in period. But it sounds like something really 'clicked' in your Versa, huh?

Just glad to hear that you're finally pleased with your purchase. Buyer's remorse can leave you pretty bitter.

I think it may be a heavier weight oil each car leaves the factory with. I just had my first service and the car feels quicker, lighter. Night and day difference.

Wait for the next oil change, switch to Mobil1 fully synt, add a K&N filter and you will see a difference in mileage.
