I experienced the same thing, but I expected it. It takes time for bearings and rings to wear in; once this occurs, friction is reduced dramatically. You also have other components that require some time to "break in," such as drivetrain components, transmission, etc. There is also one factor that is often overlooked; the driver! That's right; it can take time for the driver of a new vehicle to get used to the handling, acceleration characteristics, and braking characteristics of a vehicle. If you're new to a manual, and just bought a car w/ manual transmission, it'll take time for you to get used to shifting and clutching properly.
