94 Q45, 80K miles.......

Well, I thought I'd check the fluid level, and color of the fluid. Car warmed up, just went for a 28 mile ride, shifted thru gears and at idle, and in "Park".

The fluid level is 2" above the higher detent on the stick!!! Nice red color, just way overfull.

This is the first time I've checked it, (shame on me) and untill now, I've allways had the "service" done at the dealership...Had the 60K mile done about 4 years ago, while I lived in Houston, now in Foley Al., and there's no Nissan or Infintit dealers here...The reason I checked it in the first place, I was wondering why I get a vibration in 3rd. gear...my first thought was low on fluid...

It's been my experience that an "overfull" slushbox dosen't last very long, but it's been 4 years, and numerous 500mile jaunts across the Gulf Coast...

Should I just jack it up, get a gasket and filter, drop the pan and refill to proper level?

Thanks........

Overfull is definitely not a good idea. Tends to froth.

Perhaps, a better idea (if it looks in perfect color!) is to use a turkey baster through the fill tube and suck some out.

I'm not sure about yours but mine has a simple bolt on the bottom of the pan that can be loosened thus letting some of the fluid out, no gaskets neccesary. Hope this helps.

Hah!! Good luck finding a turkey baster with a 24inch hose hooked onto the bottom!!!!

You know, honestly, if there arent any bubbles or anything on the fluid and it looks good, i wouldnt really concern myself too much (flame suit engaged).... It has to be perfectly level and did you wipe/replace? I assume you did but many times the transmission fluid will splash up in the filler tube and will make it look like theres a lot more than there actually is.....

You could always just drain all the fluid, and then replace it with 3-4 quarts....

Hopefully you'll have a drain plug on the pan... otherwise it's time for a pan drop. I'd check it a couple of times first, but it sounds like you have the right reading...

The only other option is to detach one of the cooler lines and run the car for a second or two.... not a great idea, but probably alright for a half quart at a time...

Good luck!

I did that by mistake this summer when I was replacing my radiator...*slaps forehead*

Fortunately my trans was overfull and pumping out half a quart was a good thing.

Chansen, we actually use those things similar to waht your talking about in marine use..... Obviously you cant pull the drain plug on a boat, so you have to suck it out that way..... They sell them, albiet not very cheap.....

Chances are you have a drain, though.

Not unless you want to take the valve body off.

Just use the drain plug. Get as much out as possible, and refill with new fluid.

Not sure what the valve body has to do with a pan drop?

Ice T was shifting hard. I had the dealership check her out. They said it was overfilled, then asked me if I had any service done on it. I reminded them that they were the only ones ot ever touch the car, besides myself. They did a complete fluid change, and now the car drives like a dream.

I wonder if the car was over-filled from the factory.

It would periodically shift hard from 1 to 2. Now, it's like budda.

LMAO!

I'm having a hard shift from 1-2, now and then also....really lazy from 3-4. I reckon I jack it up and do the drain thing...and find that dang exhaust leak...

Yeah, I got and "Oh" from the service writer. They didn't charge me for the transmission fluid change. They are a really great dealership to deal with. Derek said to drive it for a while and if I found any problems he would personally make it right for me, no questions.

That is why I like Brewbaker Infiniti in Montgomery AL.
