I just found out the Under seat AC filter for the M is $80.....Each! Is Infiniti of Chantilly (VA) completely crazy or what? I understand dealership markup but this is rediculous.

Anyone have similar experience? Thanks!

Nope... if you buy them from the dealer, that's what they cost. There are some parts places that may have them a little cheaper but as far as I know there aren't any third party replacement parts for this filter.

Try infinitipartsusa.com. I tried searching but couldn't find it. Call them if you can't find it on their site. Their shipping prices can be pretty high even for small items though.

Yes, they are expensive. Crazy lil basterds. The part number is 87383-CS015They go from $80 to $130 depending where you buy them. Depending on how much you use the seat's A/C system, they require replacement every 2-3 years or 25,000-40,000 miles. They need to be replaced or when dirty, it won't provide noticeable airflow and you'll think the seats aren't working anymore. Also, they send filtered air, so no particles get stuck under the leather and the fan doesn't blow the stench of your rear passenger's feet up your butt.

For that price you might want to check them before ordering them.

There are some people, who like myself enjoy the occasional cigarette while stuck in traffic, these seat filters may get a little more clogged over time. In general though I have not seen many of these actually require replacement. Although recommended for proper operation do some research before buying them because for the same price you could invest in a maintenance item that will give you better results and keep your car running better.

Unfortunately, no longer a Nissan or Infiniti, but continuing here at NICO!

Same price at our NICO sponsor partner: http://www.everythinginfiniti.com.

Please try them for OEM parts too. This is the parts arm of Scottsdale Infiniti and has done well by us members over the years.

Replacing the engine and cabin air filter regularly, I agree. But for the seat filter, only IF you use the seat AC all the time AND smoke inside the car or drive with windows/sunroof open. The M35/45 seat filter is the most over-priced filter I've ever seen for a car. Even at a discounted price of $55, it's still way too high.

For comparison, an 03Q and 06M have cabin filters of the same dimension, 8"x9",the only difference is that the Q has activated carbon filter ($60 at IoS) while for the M is a regular HEPA filter ($29 at IoS). The seat filter is less than 4"x4", yet priced close to the Q's cabin filter. And you need 2 of these. If you are resourceful enough, buy a 3M Filtrete (it's also HEPA), cut it into the required dimension, wrap it with a velcro or something similar and plug it in.

When Beshoff Infiniti-San Jose did the 60K Maintenance on our M, I specifically told them not the replace the seat filter ($159 savings). Although the filters are 3 years old, I inspected them with magnifying glasses and compared with the Q's filter - no dirt at all. With that money, you can buy 20 quarts of Nissan Matic-S from IoS, to flush your transmission. Well...I actually bough 24 quarts from Joe.

Thats a great post.

The components are not actually made by Infiniti and I doubt the filter is from them. There is no actual reason the filter should cost this much. I completely agree with your frustration and I have thought the filter medium could be replaced with a home depot saturday morning special. The length and width would not be an issue as far as modiciation the height however would pose a problem. The height of the thing can't be more than 1/2-3/4 of an inch. (if my cloudy memory serves me correct and it might). If you were going to make one yourself I would suggest something like a spun glass type home air filter.

The filter medium does not get significantly dirty over the course of several years of use with either heat or AC mode I wonder if they really need such a pricey filter.

This is really something that is left up to the individual owner and their preferences.

As for the comparison of Infiniti micro filters the carbon activated filter has been replaced by the FX50s Grapeseed Propolyene activated air filter. I think Poyzinous could chime in with a price comparison and part numbers for us.

Here I am buddy. The carbon filter used in the Q and Y34 M is Part number 27277-AR225.The Grapeseed Propolawesome filter (which I installed in my G) is part number 999M1-VS251 and cost almost half as much, and works better. The M is supposed to use the 27277-EG025 filter. The difference between the Grapeseed filter and the others is size and weight. The 27277 numbers are 9"x 8" and the Grapeseed filter is 8.5"x 7.7" and weighs noticeably more. Probably from all the awesome. The little seat filter uses 3.25"x 3.2"x .5" of paper. What I would do is buy some of the stuff steve pictured, and cut it down to the above specs, and place it (with a little bit of glue) into the factory filter bracket and reuse it that way.
