Hey whats up guys! Well i was changing my oil the other day and i noticed a huge amount of rot on my driver side frame rail. I have a 92' 240sx coupe. I was told this is a very common issue. I was wondering if anyone can tell me why this happens to these cars? My pass side is okay but the driver is realy bad. If anyone could help thanks!

salt getting laid on the roadway after snow is a pretty common cause of it

I was told it was sitting for a year, i figured maybe in a pond. The salt is bad here. It kills the cars around here. Like i said the pass is pretty clean tho. I've had it over a year now. I cant see driving it in the snow

I don't know if this is factual so don't quote me but I heard rumors that the 93-94 S13 models were coated with an inhibitor to prevent rust.

But the problem is that water find its way into the sheet meta rails between the welded sheets. In high humidity states its a problem because the humidity slows the drying time.

The reason it only happens on the left side is because the exhaust manifold location as well. I also suspect the brake lines and BMC locations as well. Brake fluid is awesome paint remover. So the combination of water seep, not drying, manifold heat, and possible paint loss due to spilt brake fluid its a recipe for rot.

I had this issue with my car, it was cut out, plated, welded and painted.

Did you do cut and weld yourself? I'm thinking of having a guy in town thats realy good with fabricating take a look and see what can be done. I'm just a lil scared of the cost. I'm not sure if its even worth it. Like the other guy said, my towers are rusted too. the driver side strut tower wall has a hole also. The brake lines....yea went through those already but i love this coupe so much

No the local shop in Philly who sponsors their own drift team and helps the poor kids like us out did it. They only charged me like 200 on top of the other work I had done. They really did a good solid plate job.
