sounds like alot of fuel is being dumped into it, check for injector pulsing with a noid light and make sure injectors have the correct resistance (11-14 ohms is what i beleve it to be, although i will double check on that)

well, for timing, what you need to do is take your timing light and clamp the 2 aligator clamps to the corresponding terminals on the battery, then you take the 3rd thing and clamp it onto the #1 spark plug wire. then start the car. aim the light at the crank pulley and you will see a metal rod sticking out above the pulley and marks that appear to stand still on the pulley. each mark is 5 degrees and the red mark is the 0 degree mark. the timing should be 15 degrees before top dead center, you adjust it by lostening the bolts on the distributor and turning it.

before trying that, start it and run it for a few seconds. then turn it off and remove the spark plugs, see if they are wet with fuel. if they are, then its your injectors dumping in too much gas

check the maf sensor located near the intake, there is these plugs that will get weathered where the sensor plugs into the wiring, clean the plug with some brake cleaner and plug back in.

BTW the plug has a metal retaining clip that need to be removed with a screwdriver or pliers

Mine did that and it was because I had a vacuum leak. Its pretty easy to forget a hose when you do that.

let me just say that i have seen many cars with a jumped timing chain that would only run with the gas pedal pushed all the way down. then they ran bad and had no power even then. just a thought.
