Well Im in the process of going through my RB20 and I have hit a wall. The $%#@ lower timing gear will not move. I have done bent 3 pry bars, broke two seperate sets of gear pullers(2 ton- 2prong, and 3 ton- 3 prong) :wtf2: , demolished the oil pump (replacing it with an N1 anyway so it does not matter), and cussed more than I have in years. So what now? Does anyone sell a replacement gear?

I tried that too, No help at all. I even sprayed it with Kroil and PB Blaster about 6 times and let it sit over night, nothing. Its all good thoguh, my drill cut through it like butter. :bigthumb:. Another 50 bucks for a gear is a drop in the bucket compared to what I just spent on parts for this thing, so no biggie.

I got mine off with a hand held propane torch, wd-40, and two small pry bars. All I did was heat it up real good, spray wd-40 on it (sucks it in as it cools), then while still HOT place a pry bar at 9 and 3 o clock and give them a nice even nudge. Luckily I was wearing shoes because it landed on my toe. I usually use this same method for all kinds of things that require special pullers etc.

most of the time these gears get rusted on from an water pump change...to prevent this from happening again clean the crank snout super well with a red scotchbrite pad and some light oil and apply antiseize liberally to the snout and gear.

I eventually got it all the way off with the help of my drill and a chisel. Had to split it in half to get it off, Never have I seen anything that bad to get off. I plan to use some copper based anti-seize on the snout and gear this time to avoid this next time. I can tell you one thing though, my Snap-On guy is pissed at me due to all of the stuff I broke being Snap-on and having a lifetime warranty on it. So at least I get some new tools out of this :chuckle:.

I was going to suggest drilling or cutting, some times they just get really seized on there.

Nice to see your still around though! I lost your number other wise I'd give you a call. I was wondering if you still had your RB20.

I can't believe you bent or broke snap on pry bars though. My MAC ones have taken tonns of abuse.

Yea, my tool guy is pissed, lol. Now I just gotta find another gear to go on it. I ordered on from ericsperformanceparts on Ebay, but he called me today and told me they were back-ordered like 8+ weeks so now I have to try to find one. You know of anybody that might have one? I don't really care if its used as long as it's in good shape. Yea, My 20 aint going anywhere, she has been faithful, getting a full overhaul and a few upgrades this time around. I am going to try something a little different just for fun though, got a nice Eaton SC im gonna play with just to see.
