i'm broke as can be due to bills, but what about my transmission - prefer you're rather interested in the transmission problem than the timing chain - i know nothing about my 91 q45 and i need help;;; i don't know anything prior about my car, except it was bought in miami - seems as if the a/c belt snapped off so i don't run the a/c, my steering loses fluid or so it seems and every so often i fill it up with fluid - i have 191k miles on it - *sigh* i guess you can call it slipping for my transmission, 80% of the time i accel, it seems like it's stuck in first gear, alot of the times i'll accell on the highway and the rpms go up b4 the tran shifts, and i hear a -click- sound alot...? help me save my car by your expertise, i beg of thee ((((( spank u

This is the wrong car to own without the resources to spend. My advice is to sell it.

Now to answer your questions, first check the articles at http://www.nicoclub.com.

You might be leaking transmission fluid (ATF is used in power steering) from the high pressure hoses, low pressure return lines, or the rack itself.

Do a search on "chain guides". YOU MUST DO A SEARCH ON "CHAIN GUIDES"

191k is a long time for the Q transmission. Small things like jerking, hard shifting, and funny idling can be fixed with a flush, but if its dead or slipping, its toast.

Again, sell the car unless you really, really love it and are willing to commit time and energy.

The least expensive junkyard take out will be $500 [and boy are you gamb|ing because it may be worse or no better] JDM takeouts [lower but almost all Japan city miles] are usually $750 pickup in Atlanta.

Then the 5-6 hours of installation labor. Twice if you get a bad one first time.

Driven into ground Q often need $7-10,000 to get back to normal but most don't know normal without purchasing new.

We buy running junkers for $500 delivered for parts.

You can try a couple good flushings for the transmission - might help, probably won't fix it, but a replacement is gonna run $3500 or so - a professional flush is just over $100. Get it flushed, see what happens.
