Alright, so when my car is in neutral (with the ebrakes engaged), and I jack up the rear, I'm able to spin the rear wheel by hand on the drivers side, and when I try to spin the rear wheel on the passenger side, it's totally locked.

So obviously there's something wrong, because when the ebrakes are on, both rear wheels should be locked. . . So my question is, besides it being the rear brake cables, or rear caliper, what may be some other potential causes for the driver's side rear wheel to spin freely when the ebrakes are engaged?

P.S. No wonder why my car moves a little when parked with the ebrakes on, and the gear is in neutral. . .

Did this just start happening? It's either out of adjustment or broken. Have you even looked at it yet? Is the cable attached to the lever on the caliper? If so, does it move when you (have a friend check) pull up on the parking brake handle? If not, the cable is probably broken. If it does, it may not be adjusted properly.

Alright, to answer your questions;

"Did this just start happening?": No, it has always been like this since I bought it.

"Have you even looked at it yet?": I have looked at it from the back, when the wheel was mounted, and it looks like everything is fine.

"Is the cable attached to the lever on the caliper?": Yes, it seems to be.

"Does it move when you pull up on the parking brake handle?": I'm not too sure on this one, i'll have to give it a try tomorrow.

Hmm, alright, so it may just need adjustments, or the cable is broken. Is there any other possibilities? Or is it probably one of those issues you've mentioned?

Thanks for your input.

Alright, so I figured out the problem, I took the wheels off, and got a friend to pull on the Ebrake, and the left rear wheel has no ebrake cables attached to the calipers hook... Here's a pic of how it is.

Now if you compare it to the other side (the working locked wheel), you can clearly see that the ebrake cable is attached to the caliper. Here it is.

I'm guessing the cable may have stretched and became lose, thus making it come off of the caliper hook. I did try grabbing the cable and pulling it towards the hook (while the brakes were dis-engaged), but it's too tight, and it's not long enough. . .

Do you guys have any recommendations on how to get the cable back on, or do I have to go buy a new rear ebrake cable?

Help would be greatly appreciated, thanks in advance.

You just need to release some tension on the cable.

Pull the black rubber sleeve off the ebrake handle and you will see a 10mm screw at the base of the handle. You will even notice the hole in the handle sleeve so that you can pull the ebrake and wrench that bolt. That adjusts the tension on the ebrake cables. Just loosen it and it should give u enough slack to put that cable back on. Once the cable is reconnected, retighten that bolt on the handle to the position it was.

If THAT doesnt work, your going to have to take out the center console and disconnect the cable from the handle and the 2 bolts that connect this metal piece the cable goes through. once that is all disconnected, the cable will pretty much move freely, but this route is longer...

Hope that answers that

Hmm, thanks so much. I'll have to give that a try. I'll go out right now, and give it a shot. By the way, do you have any recommendations on how tight I should adjust the ebrake cable after i'm done (if everything goes smoothly)?

That is going to be a personal pref. Just adjust it until you like how far you have to pull it up. Just make sure if you tighten it to only pull it up around 1 or 2 clicks to lock be sure you dont have it too tight so the rear brakes are dragging all the time. Good luck!

Hey man, the end result turned out great. Though, the whole process from start to finish was a major b**** for me and our fellow nico member asoomal. After we got the ebrake cable as loose as it can possibly be (by adjusting the ebrake cable from the ebrake handle). we encountered some god dang slow downs.

We kept going at it, and encountered some problem (still too short), so we had to take the caliper off. And once we did that, it was easier to put the ebrake cable back on (due to the fact that we were able to move the caliper closer to the ebrake cable.

Once that was done, we tried putting the caliper back on, and we couldn't do it because the calipers brake piston was seized on, and it wouldn't let us put it back on. So after 30 minutes of trying, we decided to go and buy this.

http://www.canadiantire.ca/AST...l.jsp

Once we purchased that, we tried for another damn 30 minutes, and finally got it after dozens of slip ups/failed attempts.

Anyways, once we screwed the caliper piston all the way in, we connected the caliper on, and it was good to go. Before test driving it, we adjusted the ebrake handle pretty tight, and was in the trial and error process trying to figure out a comfortable adjustment.

Once we got the right feel, I took it for a test spin, and was going about 40 km's and then clutch in and BAM!! Yanked the ebrakes and both rear tires locked perfectly, and the car skid about 5.5 meters forward.

But after the calipers heated up, it wouldn't lock the wheels at semi fast speeds anymore . But I guess that's normal for 240's?

But yeah, now both wheels are in working order. Thanks so much for telling me about adjusting the cables spiffy, thanks a lot asoomal, and I appreciate all the helpful answers that has been given to me here. Sorry for the long read
