Hmm. . . Quick question on the degree of seriousness I have just found. . .

Post

Alright, well earlier today I was cleaning the passenger side floor, and while reaching over, some of my change fell out of my pocket and on to the ground outside. . .

As I was picking it up, I discovered something horrible. . . RUST.

Basically, it's all along the right side skirt, there's none on the left side. . . But a lot on the right. . .

So my question is. . . Will a simple sand and paint be good enough for the condition of the rust? Or has the rust seeped all the way through to the other side? And by this. . . I mean will it look like this once I sand it down?

(Courtesy pics from ghostboy's craigslist gold thread)

So anyways, will my car look like that once I sand it down? Here's pics of my cars rust condition, just took these a few minutes ago.

Help would be greatly appreciated, thanks in advance.

You could probably poke through that with a screwdriver

Looks like the paint is starting to bubble up very slightly even six inches to the left of the major area....best to clear off a good bit to prevent futre rust problems

Wasn't this expected? From the start it looked like it had a big rust problem.

Strip the paint and see how far the rust goes, good luck.

Right, But that's what I'm wondering, if the rust ate through the sides like in that picture from ghostboy? Because the bubbly paint is still covering it. . . But it can easily be covering a potential hole or 2?

Wait, I think you're mixing me up with ghostboy (first two pictures I have on top). . . My car has nowhere near the amount of rust his car has. . . My car is only bubbling on the sides as opposed to his car being torn through.

Damn. . . Sucks balls. So i'll need to use body filler as suggested by bersh240.

I have similar but little worse "symptoms" than yours. Get some pics when you uncover the nightmare so I know what's waiting for me as well.

the best way to keep rust away is completely cut out the big sections and weld new steel in place. On the smaller cancer spots (holes smaller than 1/4") you could get away with filler, but the best fix would be to get rust killer and then solder-fill the holes.

I would take all the rust out and have someone weld a plate over all that. Im not down for body filler.

The answer is: Yes, in at least one spot. See this pic?

That crack is gonna be just like those other spots on your friend's car.

How did you not notice that gaping hole? Do you work on your own car?
