i just got a v-lsd 2weeks ago and it seemed to be doing fine the first few days, but now it seems dat my v-lsd only bites sometimes... it turns into an open diff. then sometimes it'll turn into a lsd. does anyone knoe wut the problem might be? or is there some i should know?

oh and the v-lsd is from a 300zx

when it's low on fluid, it'll be like an open diff according to personal experience

I suggest you get 1.5qt of the grear oil, make sure the FILL nut opens, stick your wee wee inside to confirm that it is indeed low on fluid, then dump and replace the fluid

but yeah.. you probably want to check for leaks, maybe the diff cover gasket is broken... mine was leaking between the driveshaft and the rear diff

some people like motul or something but I think that's pretty darn expensive

hvae you tried redline product? I have using redline motor oil, redline transmission oil and redline gear oil

but you didn't ask me that

try the redline 75w90 gear oil, you can buy it at myoilshop.com at 7$ a bottle

you need 2 bottles and fill it up from the fill hole on the side until it drips out

be sure to dump the old oil first

oh yeah find your leak first if there is one

EDIT: whoops, didn't see loveless' post, but I'll keep my info here anyway.

It should be a 80W-90 gear oil. I think the FSM recommends Penzoil and some people say Mobile 1. I went with Valvoline Durablend because thats what my autoshop had (no penzoil and didn't feel like getting the synthetic).

I was looking at the Redline 75W-90 and it says there are friction modifiers added. I thought that VLSD don't need / aren't supposed to use friction modifiers?

I don't drift, I dont' wnat to drift and I don't want to try, vlsd is the way to go

well i don't know what you use your car for loveless if it's to daily i guess vlsd is fine. i don't drift but it's nice to learn. i don't know what he is using his car for. i assume he will be using it to drift? since it is the big RAVE nowadays... i haven't drvien a car with vlsd. i just know it gets worn/burn out real easy after a few track events.

not everyone is on the drifting bandwagon, my money is on that he's not using it for drifting (want to bet 1$?)

vsld is affordable, gets the job done and it's reliable. I don't know about wearing out but continously use of it is not intended by factory which woudl explain premature failure. That woudl hardly consider as useless. goooooooooo vlsd power

you consider this an argument?

why do people automatically assusme that when others' opinion jeopodize their own, it's automatically an argument?

dude, i didn't consider this an arguement, i don't think my opinion was jeopardized at all. you daily drive your cars i track my cars. you probably don't understand my point of view. i can understand your point of view, but to me a car is meant to be driven, and i don't mean just to drive to work, school and etc... like i said this thread is a dime a dozen. if you'd like to expand your point of view about vlsd you can e-mail me... i shouldn't have said vlsd waste of money because i didn't know what he was using his car for. i did say that vlsd was fine for the streets though.

peace out

Forget a clutch type, helical is where it's at for Auto-X.

VLSD's just do that crap sometimes, mine did it all the time and it wasn't low on fluid, it was just worn.

I've read that worn vlsd is due to worn vicous plate or something?

how do you properly inspect a vlsd?

i don't have any experiance with the torsen lsd's (driving) the guys i talked to at my local events ditched the quafie's for clutch type. they drive from honda's to bimmers i talked to them before choosing my lsd. quafie has life time warranty or something like that... that's what sold me but then they talked me out of it... i've never regret it. i would like to drive someones car with a torsen lsd but no one has them that i know of...

V lsd sucks big fat cheesy a$$. Whoever defends it does not know what a "real" lsd feels like. Also your "v" lsd isn't low on fluid because the ''v'' part is a sealed unit inside the diff. It might be worn out it might not be. You'll never know because that is how unpredictable vlsd's are. Sometimes donuts for days and sometimes just half hearted ovalnuts.
