Ok, we just recieved the ca18det harness we had ordered a few weeks ago. Im selling my motorset in a few weeks, and with all the confusion about harnesses/ecus matching etc. i just wanted to make sure I had the right setup for my buyer.

I have an 79 ECU,Is my ecu a 5 speed ecu? I for some reason have a dropping resistor down towards the plugs you have to rewire, doesnt this mean its an auto harness? Will this work with the 5 speed transmission? I have a 5 wire DSM dropping resistor pack..how do I wire it in to the Ca dropping resistor plug?

I just want to double check these things out before I sel it.

The Automatic has two dropping resistors. One, like a 5 speed, is on the passenger side near the main harness that you rewire. The other is on the driver side by the MAF. In order to make the DSM one work, you'll have to get the diagram for the CA main harness & the diagram for the DSM dropping resistor. Match up the colors with the correct codes, and splice them together.-- 79 is a 4sp. ECU, 98 is for a 5 sp.--*BTW* if you choose to sell this ECU, I need a spare one for my 4sp. car. Best of luck!

**** that pisses me off. Well i need to get this worked out before I sell it. I heard the auto ecus work for the 5 speed as well. Can anyone confirm this?

eh, anybody have some answers? I know of an importer that can get them, he charges $360 shipped for the ecu and harness however. He does have 2 in stock.

can you gimme the importers info? please email me at [email protected]. Why dont you use the dsm dropping resistor finding the wiring for both the ca and dsm resistor? As for the ECU im a noob.

I don't know how well it would work, as the auto ECU won't allow you to rev like a 5sp. You may be able to use the harness, but you'll have wires left over. The harness would include wires that go to the transmission. The Automaic is ALOT more complicated!

From what I've been told you can use an auto ecu with manual, but not manual with auto. And Pat the ECU doesn't control your engine RPM's. Your auto trans does that! Our friend with a KA-T was running a Auto ECU from a 95 in his 91 and it ran fine. He ran this until his reflash unit got back to him. About a month or more without any issues! The Aussie's are a really good connection for CA parts as they have really helped my brother (89'ClubK's) out alot on hard to find goodies!!
