I ordered brain crower valve springs retainer set from Jeff at heavythrottle. Just found out its on back order and everywhere else is on backorder, too. Jeff has been really helpful, he is looking for HKS valve springs set for me. I am just wondering how are they different between brain crower and HKS? the price is not a big difference, though

I've never heard any bad things about either BC, HKS or Greddy springs, wither standard or titanium. Only difference I'm aware of is the BC are cheaper.

PS. by the way, I think I remember seeing the BC springs and retainers on ebay for under $300 the other day.

Youre crazy if you pay 300 dollars for the BC kit. The most I have seen them for is about 220-230 dollars. I just installed the BC kit in my car but looking back I would have done it different. I would have kept the stock retainers and spent more money on a quality spring instead. Peak performance or supertech race valve springs would have been my choice. I'm not saying BC springs are bad but titaniums retainers on a street driven car is really not needed.

Just to let everyone know, BC kits are backordered till the end of september last time I checked.

check the cam discussion stick in this forum...people compare them alot. I remember someone saying the Greddy is a bit stiffer than the BC.

I've heard some bad reviews on the Greddy springs., specially with more aggressive cams.

everywhere I called today was on backorder because BC themselves is out of stock now....so I guess I will go with HKS springs and about the retainers, should I use the stock ones or BC's? or what should I use? I have BC 264/264 cams on the way to my house now... so should I use stock retainers or anything else?

Go to freshalloy dot com and in the search...type in sr valve spring test. Go to that thread and read it.

There is proof that hks springs arnt the best choice. Like I recommended before....go with peak performance or supertech. A lot of the top sr20 engine builders are using them.

I dont know why but when you type in freshalloy dot com it changes it to nicoclub. Just go to the freshalloy forums and type in sr valve spring test in the search.

so anybody knows the stock retainers fit the HKS springs or not? and does it matter if I still use the stock retainers?

of course they will fit. If you just think about it, all aftermarket valve spring manufacturers have to make the spring the same dimensions as the stock spring. Otherwise it will throw off the valve height too much. So if the stock springs are the same dimensions as a hks spring, doesnt it make sense that a stock retainer will fit.

And Im going to warn you the last time, there are better choices than hks. The hks spring rate is very close to stock so its not the best spring out there. If you are going to spend the 180-200 dollars for the hks spring, why not spend the same amount for a spring with a higher spring rate.

Greddy springs are not much stiffer than stock ones.. They are prone to breaking and leading to a catastrophic failure.

There was a thread on FA and someone actually tested the spring force and stock and greddy were very very similar.

exactly....there is also the pro version for 20 dollars more. Honestly I would just throw down the extra 20 for the special coating, but its not necessary. Just use peak springs and stock retainers and you will be set.

No way, thats awesome. Im also Taiwanese. I actually just got back from a summer trip to taiwan a couple weeks ago.

Are you saying that the guys from phase2 are from taiwan or peak performance? I have ordered a lot of stuff from phase2 and they are really good guys.

Good luck with those springs. I think you will be happy. Thats the route I would have taken if I could do it over again.
