Hello all,

I just installed HKS type-1 Turbo timer and I have a problem.

The car starts but the problem is when I turn the key to turn the car off, the engine actually turns off and when I take the key out, the turbo timer starts to count down but the engine is off already... It acts as if the key was in "ON" position (All electronics are on but the engine is off) and when the countdown ends, the car shuts off completely...

What could be wrong? Thanks!

EDIT: I have a factory alarm I hear that you have to bypass that alarm somehow??

did you wire it in yourself or use a harness?

used a harness... the seller sent me a harness made for S13 but he said that the only modification needed to be done for S14 was jump a wire between the two plugs which I did and the car started fine.. (before the wire jumping it didnt...)

is there a huge difference between a S14 and S13 harness?

I'm assuming you have the gray wire attached to the parking brake wire.

they list the same harness for 89-98' 240's link so I dont think there is going to be much of a difference.

holy **** HKS charges money for the manual! Quote »Q: My HKS product did not have any English instructions.

A: HKS USA inserts english instructions into the products that ships from HKS USA. If you did not recieved them, please contact the HKS dealer where you originally purchased your product. The HKS dealer should provide you with the instructions for the HKS product. If the HKS dealer can not obtain the instruction manuals for you, you may contact HKS USA's customer service line at (310) 491-3300. Please have your original invoice accessible as you will need to fax HKS USA a copy of the original invoice. If you do not have a copy of your original invoice, there is a charge of $5-10.00 depending on the number of pages included in the instruction manual. HKS will then fax, mail, or email (if applicable) instructions upon receipt of payment. These charges are for customers in the continental United States and Canada. International countries are slightly higher. Please note that not all of HKS USA's English instruction manuals are available in email able format.[/quote]link well that blows. I was going to download the manual and try to help you w/ it but I dont know what to say...

lmfao. Owned by Google.

which two wires did you connect? I'd suggest using a volt meter to test your leads from the harness and verify you're getting a constant power source and accessory that only comes on when the key is in the 'on' position. it's possible that 1) your harness might be bad or 2) there's something else w/ the car's wiring that's scewing with it.

I had the exact OPPOSITE problem w/ my APexi Autotime when i installed it.

it would count down but instead of turning the car off it would start the countdown again and keep the car running. endlessly. come to find I was using the fuel pump relay to run my radiator fan. I disconnected that and the TT worked fine. I have the fan running from my A/C accessory relay at current. Do you ahve anything wired up to the fuel pump fuse in the engine bay?

I dont have anything wired to the fuel pump relay in the engine bay nor the fuel pump fuse in the fuse panel behind the driver kick panel...

I have a volt meter display in the HKS turbo timer which reads constant 14V voltage when the car is running and around 12~13V when the engine is off. This is also confirmed by a voltmeter gauge that I have.

The only thing I have hooked up are two gauges(AFR and voltmeter) which are wired to a power mirror fuse behind the driver kick panel.

maybe I should go disconnect those two and see if it does anything. BRB.

THe same thing happens to me if i don't turn the ignition off fast enough. There is a window of a second or less that I have to turn the key off, or the engine will shut off, and the timer will still run. So don't dingle around when turning your car off

You and I have the same TT so I hope this helps..

So I have to turn into Superman and turn the ignition off, get my finger on the button and get they key out all in less than a second?

wow... Im going to go outside and try that now... BRB

i dont think you have to get to the button and have the key out, maybe you do. My fat fingers brush the button and disengage the lock when i shut the car off anyways, so who knows. But yeah, we have the same timer.

Bronze you are my hero!!! haha I cant belive that made the TT work...

It's really odd why I have to turn it off so fast... otherwise the engine just turns off. I dont have to take the key out fast but I have to kill the engine really fast otherwise the engine just turns off.

Even when I turn it off really fast, there is that split second when the RPM drops a little and acts like its going to turn off then kicks alive again. Very weird.

But it was a cool feeling walking away from my car still running and then watching it shut off from a distance haha.

does anyone else have to do that with their TT?

Yeah, i guess it takes a split second for the timer to realize you're trying to shut off the car before it kicks in. Glad it worked for ya
