From what I have read on here and other boards, the HKS style turbo outlet will not clear the steering shaft in the s13's. What kind of modification is needed to make it clear?

I need an outlet for my current build up and I am eyeing the HKS style one, but I will go with the GReddy one if necessary. I just wanted to know where on the housing it hits the steering shaft.

Also, do these things have 2 bungs in them or just the one for the o2 sensor? I assume it is threaded, but some of the pictures I've seen makes it seem that it is not threaded.

Thanks for the info!

Joe

I've heard that the HKS elbows will not clear the steering column. The greddy ones and their replicas are the ones to look for unless you go custom. the greddy one has the bung for the o2 sensor

the HKS Style one has a bung, and is tapped. on my S14 it barely touched the column.i gave it a little wack with a pipe and it's all good.it touched on the part that the wastegate exhaust flows through before joining back in with the main exhaust.

It hit BIGTIME on my S13. Right at the plastic color on the steering shaft. I even had my SSAutochrome manifold on there that puts the dump closer to the transmission (too close to use the stock tube)

I had to hammer it so much for clearance that it cracked. I threw it in the trash in disgust and the manifold is still sitting in my garage. When i get my T28 I'll get a greddy elbow and try that with the manifold.

On S13 there has been much talk of having to hammer the knock off elbows. I have Greddy and it is the only one I know that hasn't had any complaints. It clears fine on mine. (Redtop into S13) I do have Nismo mounts though but it should still clear without them.
