Somehow, my friend is able to get me a discount through his work on HKS equipment for an SR20DET, and I want to hear some ideas.

If you guys had $1500-$2000 to spend on HKS equipment for your SR, what would you buy? Keep in mind that I will be completely stock minus air filter, clutch/PP, nismo motor mounts and walbro fuel pump.

TIA.

your gonna want to get some sort of exhaust on that car pretty quick, ditch that stock 240sx compressor killer.

though i dont think i would go with HKS on that part.

well if it had to be HKS equipment i would get a metal head gasket, valve springs, rocker arm stoppers, set of cams, intercooler.

it would be best to do all that head work at one time, so you might as well buy all the parts and do the work once. I would have said "bigger turbo" but there is too much that needs to be done to the motor before you go and slap that bigger turbo on. so just start w/ those and you'll have a nice solid base to build on.

ps. i'm pretty sure you need HKS's cam gears w/ those cams. just get that new SR installed first, get it running and tuned well. run it for a month or so and then start your upgrades. its REALLY hard to trouble shoot something once you start throwing more after market parts into the equation.

nah...

get a hks gt series turbo 28**, so it will bolt onto your stock manifold..you will be in the 1300-2000 range, and will get about 350whp with fuel mods..and you dont have to do the internals...

I see NO reason to tell you to build the head, thats a waste of money, ESPECIALLY when you dont know what you need to build in the head, for what mods you have....the head is not strong, and there is no reason for cams till you have a large turbo, and need top end, or help spooling that thing.....

Id say bottom end, but you dont need to really worry till about 400hp, and if you do the bottom end you will have no mooney left todo the turbo, and then you would have a 250whp car with a fully built bottom end, lol, again, no reason for that.

I definitly would say if your a power man, the turbo is going to be the best way to go right now, and you dont have to worry about building the motor at all....

Otherwise i would say get HKS coilovers, and some little accesories....

but please, dont build the head until after the bottom end, and all the turbo work you have planned....

turbo and headgasket is my opinion.

jesse(there is a SR powered car running 8.4's right now in the us, on a STOCK head) : ) (rocker arms were moddified)

good point, i was assuming that he knew what he had planned for the future. but as for the HKS turbo...i'd go with the Garret equilivent and save the money your paying to have HKS stamped on the side.

just a thought.

Well, I would love to get stuff to build the head, but that's getting a little bit ahead of myself. I was talking more about bolt on stuff, IC's, BOV's, timers, boost controllers (I don't know anything about HKS BC's), pulleys, things like that. More like supporting mods. Don't forget, this is totally stock engine.

What HKS exhausts do you guys like? I defintitely need a DP, TP and cat back.

Any stiff rear springs you guys like? I want to get some so I don't bog bad on my launches; I don't know how good my rear springs are, they are 13 years old.

ahhh turbo timers are a waste of money and are only really usefull if you are planning on driving that thing every day, to the store and to the likker store and to pick up the kids for soccer practice.

OK, I could skip on a Turbo Timer, you're right, I'm not daily driving it.

Anybody know about the HKS EVC or the new EVC6 boost controllers? Any experience? I've used a GReddy ProfecB, and it was really nice because it was so simple. Any BC's like that one?

i think SCC did a review of most of the "popular" boost controllers an issue or two back. (i dont know if you subscribe to that trash or not) i read that article i think they the Apexi AVC-r one of the higest, along that one there was the ProfecB i think, i dont think it was the A, as i recall the cheaper one actually provided a much steadier boost curve.

might want to find that issue if you can, i think it had a picture of the new WRX STI on the cover.

that top model hks boost controller is the ****....i think it cost like $1100, lol...

I see you dont have an intercooler, so i have to say FRONT MOUNT INTERCOOLER!

i assume its only for hksusa stuff, so look here...

http://www.hksusa.com/info/?id=1606

but if your lucky, you can get anything on these list ; )

http://sr20.hybrids.jp/andy_c/...2.htm

gauges an option for you? If you get a real nice set of HKS gauges (youll want nice gauges in the future) it will run you a good amount of cash, so that might be a good option to start with....AFTER FMIC

then add a mid level boost controller...

As long as there is an HKS part number, I can get my hands on it.

As for the gauges, I already have some, they are cheap, but they do the job. I'm going to get cobalt series autometers when I can afford them.

I would say pick up a set of HKS suspension. It's pretty good stuff. Also I have the HKS super dragger exhaust on my sr. It's pretty nice as well. It's not very loud but has a very good sound. I would stay with the profec B. It's an awesome boost controller. I sold mine and bought a profec A. Wish I would have just stayed with the B.

What about hooking up your fellow 240 brothers (and sisters) with your wonderous opportunity?

Depends on what you need. I need to figure out which intercooler I want, because the HKS list has like 8978901231012389 different IC setups, and I'm too lazy to look at it. So if people want something, get me a part number off HKS's website, and I'll find out what the price is. I believe they can get any HKS product, but GReddy stuff isn't as easy. If it's actually made by Trust, they can't get it.

I got my clutch from them yesterday; list: $395, price $235 :D :D

I'm probably going to go get my FMIC/BOV/ProfecB pretty soon, so if you want anything, let me know on AIM, and I'll see what I can do.
