Does anyone have HKS Hypermax Damper II which is $1800 or HKS Hypermax DRAG coilovers for $2000... whats the difference between them? im guessing the hypermax drag is used for DRAG.. but im planning on drifting.. haha and .. are these worth the money?

thanks guysDAMPER II

I have the hypermax II's... iirc, the sping rates are 8/6, which in my honest opinion is comfy as heck... esp on socal freeways. I've ridden on other coils (Tein he's, JIC's, megan streets and tracks) and honestly, I think mines are the best for daily with the ocasional track (auto-x mostly). IMO, theyre probably not the most aggressive for drifting, but they can still help you get sideways. 30 way adj dampening, helper springs in teh back, and fully rebuildable.

I think the only thing I dislike about mines is you adjust damper from the bottom of the shock, as opposed to the top (I'm too lazy to remove the wheels). But from what I heard, thats a good thing?? I dunno, I'm no suspension expert.

Don't get the drags unless you plan on dragging only (or daily). IIRC, they have spring rates of like 5/3 or something like that... won't do much good on hard cornering.

o ok... 8 kgf/mm up front, 6 kgf/mm in the rears. (kgf/mm = kilgram-force/ millimeter)

Most drift cars will run a higher spring rate because the stiffer it is, the more predictable the drift will be, or something like that (i.e. like a really low percent body roll). You'll see spring rates like 10/8 or 12/10 on drift cars... so you can kinda imagine how an 8/6 would be.

For drag, I guess its kinda the opposite, you want the rears to absorb traction, thus the lower spring rate...

What you should do is take a ride along in someones s13 w/ coilovers, ask them what their spring rate is, and take that into consideration on what your preference would be...

well it all really depends on your preference and what your gonna be doing most of the time. I definitly wouldn't recommend getting drifting specific coilovers for a daily driven car, unless you know surely your roads are smooth. I mean, my buddy has the megan tracks which iirc are like 10/8 or something like that, and me as a passenger, get headaches on the 605 freeway... theyre pretty damn stiff for my taste.

My coils, as a daily street car, I love em. I hardly go to the tracks really... but imo, even 8/6 is pretty stiff

like I said, you should seriously take a ride along in someones car first so you know at least where your standpoint would be

although i love my TEIN SDFs, they really aren't streetable on uneven roads. my bumper fell off because of them being to stiff (use your imaginiation). i was going to get the HKS Hipermax IIs but settled for the TEINs because the price was unbeatable.

I hardly ever see them out on the shelves anymore, I see more Hypermax RS's more than any other type of HKS coils. You can still get them through special order tho..

Silk Road offers custom spring rates. I opted for 9/7 to land right in between your 8/6 and a track style 10/8. 1400 isnt much more than Teins, and less than the HKS. Great coilovers to btw.
