You have to post everything or they wont understand.....
Heres the deal...
He has an s14 Hiper exhaust, that mounts up to where it is supposed to fine. One problem there is no secondary cat (hollow shell) between the first cats downpipe and the exhaust. That is why it wont reach, even when the rubber hangers are stretched to the max as there is a 13"+ section missing
Ok where did it go?? The previous owner took that off and had another different type of (possibly a real cat at one point but may have been gutted) cat / shell / resonator welded onto the oem piping. It looks like they cut off the flange that normally mates the oem exhaust to the OEM hollow shell or second cat. Then they welded this thing onto the oem exhaust and welded a flange onto the other end. The total length equaled that of the oem shell and thus replaced it. So now instead of having a removable shell its welded to the oem exhaust.
My suggestion was to put the oem exhaust back on and pack up the hks ehaust. Drive it to a muffler place and have them remove the oem exhaust, install the hks exhaust, cut the aftermarket shell thing off of the oem exhaust weld a new flange onto the other end (replicating the oem shall / cat) and bolt it up. Down side is, that if this new peice (the peice welded on) is longer then the oem piece then yey wont be able to use it...
So a test pipe which is quick (I used to make em so I know how quick it can be done sans lift even) and more efficient, would be the best route and probably cost the same as them rigging the shell resonator thing up.
But you still have to pay for the install of the exhaust and the fabrication either way.
My suiggestion was to go to my local JY and see what they want (shouldnt be much at all) for a hollow shell that is sitting inside a 95. This way all he would need to do is buy it at cost plus shipping. Bolt it up to the downpipe like normal then bolt up the HKS like it was meant to be.. Not as effiecient as a test pipe, but might be cheaper (depends on the price) then the cost of having them install the exhaust and then fabricate this piece or weld up a test pipe.....
See, gotta tell them everything hehe
