I just got my HKS Hiper for my 95 240 SX and it is not fitting right. The part where it connects to the catalytic converter is short. It is short by like 4 inches. A friend said the catalytic converter was not stock so it might be shorter. So what are my options, what can I do. I need major help. Can someone post pics of there install showing like 5 pics of the whole thing on, under the car. Thanks a lot!Josh

Also, is it supposed to be like kind of slanted coming out of the back. Because I have the second part on the hangers and it is kind of tilted, is that how it is supposed to be.Josh

Didn't someone just post a reply in the NICO general section about how the HKS is the BEST exhaust for the 240sx? My Apexi fit 'like a glove'!!

Hmmmm, more ammo to prove the Apexi N1 dual is the superior product!!! mwaaaahahaha:D

Anyway, that sucks bad. Yes it is suppoed to exit the rear tilted upward and towards the drive side. This is to maintain the straightest possible pipe. As for the wrong fit, go to a shady muffler shop and have them build a test pipe to replace the fake cat, and make up the gap. Good luck!

You could allways bend the hangers towards the front of the car. If you can bend them back an inch or two the rubber hangers could take up the rest of the slack.

Even if you pull it, have a friend puch it from the canister, to the front it still wont go? Usually the rubber hangers can take up alot of slack.

Hmm, glad I purchased a product that was actually meant to fit on my car! j/K:D

But I doubt the hangers will make up for a four inch gap. It is also highly unlikely that the reason the gap exists is the 'cat' being an after-market replacement. That isn't even a catalytic converter, and if some idiot put one on that was 4 inches shorter, they would have had to build a pipe from the first factory muffler to the new 'cat' that made up the difference. This would certainly be cost prohibitive in comparison to just replacing it with the correct part.

It sounds like the wrong product, or a defect. Send it back, or like I said previously...have a test pipe built. When you pay that much for something, it would be nice if it installed without jerry rigging it, or smashing your hangers.

BTW the size I used IIRC to make test pipes way back when was 13 5/8" that should be the size of the cat (my second was a real cat GO AUTO).

That is if I rem the number right off of my head.

Doesn't really matter if its right, if all that was altered was the secondary cat or hollow shell, depends as some have 2 cats. If they modified the first cat and piping then it would matter I guess.

But if not go measure the place where the shell or real second cat would have been. I gave you the size it should be.

What was on there before?

I'd call the vendor you got the product from and explain the situation to him. Seems like you might have gotten the wrong exhaust. It's highly unlikely that HKS sold you a product that was 4" shorter than it was supposed to be.

I have been talking to 96 S14 and he is saying that I am probably going to need to get a test pipe or get a muffler shop to do some custom work on it. So can anyone tell me about this?Josh

You have to post everything or they wont understand.....

Heres the deal...

He has an s14 Hiper exhaust, that mounts up to where it is supposed to fine. One problem there is no secondary cat (hollow shell) between the first cats downpipe and the exhaust. That is why it wont reach, even when the rubber hangers are stretched to the max as there is a 13"+ section missing :)

Ok where did it go?? The previous owner took that off and had another different type of (possibly a real cat at one point but may have been gutted) cat / shell / resonator welded onto the oem piping. It looks like they cut off the flange that normally mates the oem exhaust to the OEM hollow shell or second cat. Then they welded this thing onto the oem exhaust and welded a flange onto the other end. The total length equaled that of the oem shell and thus replaced it. So now instead of having a removable shell its welded to the oem exhaust.

My suggestion was to put the oem exhaust back on and pack up the hks ehaust. Drive it to a muffler place and have them remove the oem exhaust, install the hks exhaust, cut the aftermarket shell thing off of the oem exhaust weld a new flange onto the other end (replicating the oem shall / cat) and bolt it up. Down side is, that if this new peice (the peice welded on) is longer then the oem piece then yey wont be able to use it...

So a test pipe which is quick (I used to make em so I know how quick it can be done sans lift even) and more efficient, would be the best route and probably cost the same as them rigging the shell resonator thing up.

But you still have to pay for the install of the exhaust and the fabrication either way.

My suiggestion was to go to my local JY and see what they want (shouldnt be much at all) for a hollow shell that is sitting inside a 95. This way all he would need to do is buy it at cost plus shipping. Bolt it up to the downpipe like normal then bolt up the HKS like it was meant to be.. Not as effiecient as a test pipe, but might be cheaper (depends on the price) then the cost of having them install the exhaust and then fabricate this piece or weld up a test pipe.....

See, gotta tell them everything hehe

Okay, so HKS sent you the right stuff...... that's comforting. I would have the test pipe built, it will be a cheap and beneficial solution to your problem.... this was the idea that I suggested from THE BEGINNING!!!!!!!!!
