I am leaning toward going with the HKS hi-power catback exhaust to replace the stock exhaust on my '96 S14. I have the stock KA24DE. I can get that exhaust for under 400, which is a little less than the BRM/VRS aluminized 2.5. I am interest in any available hp boost with mellow tone, not too loud, and good clearance (rear progress bar could interfere?).

Thanks for any suggestions!!

i have an hks hi-power. i had it on my CA, it would make v8 guys do a doubletake

then i put it on a stock KA-E with a testpipe and it didnt sound bad, not as nice of a tone as the CA and a bit louder. but i imagine with a CAT it will even it up a bit

its a great exhaust, 80mm pipes and 95mm tip with a resonator

(this was all on an s13 btw)

+1 for HKS

The hi-power for my S14 says it is a 65mm pipe, according to the Stillen site. That is actually more the size I was hoping for (~2.5 inch)... so is the setup for the S13 actually have larger piping or did you actually have the "hiper"... which I believe is a different and more pricey exhaust?

definitly google it to find the best price for one. They come in both the 65mm and 80mm apps (for the S13 at least.) I bought the 80mm setup for my S13 hatch. I had the single cam KA-E motor, and it sounded loud and deep. I did an SR swap recently, and dont think it sounds nearly as good with the SR. (wonder if its because of my downpipe). 2.5inch is good for N/A apps. Though i've known people who still run 2.5-2.75 inch exhausts with turbo setups, drifting and such.

+1 HKS Hi-Power

Oh...bought mine for istoreparts.combought it for pretty f-in cheap.

naturally aspirated engine... no turbo, supercharger, or nitrous upgrades on the engine.

Why would a 2.5-2.75 be good for a turbo drift car? The bigger the exhaust the faster the turbo spools the more torque at lower rpms. 2.5-2.75 is good for an n/a car and if i still had a catalytic converter i would go 3in, your cat. makes more than enough back pressure.

I have the Hiper on my 96 N/A. It sound really really nice. It is deep and not too loud. Plus, it's deep rumble often chirps car alarms when I drive past. I love that.

The one downside, IMO is the size of the tip. It is really wide and it looks kinda silly on an N/A car if you ask me. Other than that, it is highly recommended and fits like a glove into the stock hanger spots.

Thanks everyone for the tips. I just ordered the hi-power for my 96 S14, for 390, not including shipping. I also ordered the AEM intake and the energy suspension rear control arm bushings. Has anyone tried those?

From what I hear, high flow exhaust on a N/A engine is kind of worthless, and can actually drop horsepower unless your running boost or a larger displacement engine.

well you should put low flow exhaust on your car
