The different stages is for the lift (how much the valve is pushed open). The duration in degrees is how long the valves stay open. Lift is good for some power gains due to more air coming in throughout the powerband. Duration is good for top end and high revving power, but some loss in low end due to valve overlap (if duration is excessive).

Just some more info for ya, Step 1 is good with nothing more than a RAS kit, the step 2 takes valve springs and retainers, the stage 3 is a PITA and takes solid lifters.

256 is a good drift cam (great response and idle)264 good all around (slight lump and slightly soggy bottom end)272 topend cam, must have a big turbo to make this work IMHO

So is it better to get both intake and exhaust cams the same size or different sizes?

I thought step 2 only required valve springs. Retainers is an optional thing.

For use with upgraded turbo's... DSM cats are liking the 264 intake - 272 exhaust setup.

I have the step 2 264intake 272 exhaust on a stock t-25 it does make the power band weird but the gains are defiantly noticeable. I can't wait to feel them with my GT30R i just ordered .

I have a full t3 turbo upgrade, would it be better to go 272/272 or the 262/272? I dont really know about these things, but I would like to upgrade my cams and have the best setup as possible.

Thanks,

Charlie

I have a t3/t4E setup goin in and I have the cams, RAS, Springs, headgasket, studs, and intake mani goin in all together.....they're HKS 264's step 1 on both I and E.....I'll let you know how they work out in march/april. I went with the 264's to avoid stalling at lights and cause they're pretty much good all around in an SR

If u stagger the I and E cams you'll want to get Cam Gears also so U can tune the car correctly....I stayed away from the stagger because I don't think the cam gears are worth the extra 3-5 HP..... (maybe 10 if ur lucky)......and the extra $$ it'll cost on the dyno to get those 5-10 ponies.......just my input......little easier not goin staggered....

Tomei also makes a solid lifter conversion but I would take hydralic lifters over solid any day of the week......the tomei kit can be purchased on http://www.jspec.com

I already have hks cam gears I got when I purchased the motor(lucky me:)) I have stock cams though. When I plan on buliding the head I was wondering what stage and what type of cams to use. I have no clue what would be the best setup, thats why im asking you guys. Im done building the bottom end forged wiseco pistons and eagle rods. Im want to do the head but just not sure what type of cams to get.
