Hi Everyone, I have a new question for everyone. A good friend of mine is in the army and he just sent me a HKS 2540R turbo which is great except the turbo is blown up. The shaft still spins freely but looks like it has a bit of a wobble to it, and when you spin the turbine it makes a really bad squealling. The shaft also pulls in and out about a 1/4 of an inch. So the question is should I have this rebuilt or is it worth it and if so what company or shop would you suggest rebuild it. Thanks

Ball bearing turbos cannot be rebuilt, its one of their pitfalls. The only way to repair a ball bearing turbo is to buy a new centersection. A T28 centersection costs about $700 to give you an estimated starting point.

first off, a 2540 is a bad compressor/turbine match. flows the same as a 2530, but with more lag.

and secondly, a ballbearing turbo can be rebuilt. go to http://www.agpturbo.com call them up and see what they say.

Well if they are the only company that says they can rebuild them, then they cannot be rebuilt and they are probably just replacing the centersections like everyone else and calling it a rebuild. Centersection = $700, rebuild = about $700 for a full one. Might as well get a new one...

no, its a good turbo, but the exhaust side is a little big for the compressor.

a 2530 will make 10 hp less, but spool more quickly. if you got it with the motor, you cant complain.

its probably a good turbo to spray.

Umm....SpeedRacer1 BB turbos were meant to be rebuilt, hence they don't last as long as regular turbo's (I'm talking about the center section).
