The tag on the M45 says to use premium gas. I would like to save on fuel costs by using medium or regular grade gas. My husband says to use only premium. Can I use regular? Can I use the medium grade? Will this damage the car? Thanks for your help.

You can only use minimum of 87 octane and that's in high altitude states like NM, CO, MT, WY, UT etc.. These are performance engines and require a higher octane. If you don't use the higher octane gas your engine will start knocking and then your husband is going to have your @$$ because of the repair costs for a new engine or whatever needs repair internally.

If your not happy about fuel costs don't drive a V8.

If you want to use regular and save money on Gas... buy a Toyota Corolla or something.

You need to use premium on this car or you're going to have issues before long. It was designed as such and thats why there is even a warning when you fill up

I don't know how it is in MD, but there are several gas stations where I live that discount their Premium, as well as, if you pay with your Debit card. Lately, I have been filling up with Shell V-Power (93 octane). Yesterday, Regular was $3.15, and I paid $3.19 for Premium at the pump with my Debit card. Something to think about. Most gas stations keep the general $.10 difference between grades, but there are some that have different increments, and give a $.10 per gallon discount for cash like the one I just described.

On a separate note, your avatar has an '05 or newer Vette? That is one nice ride - can you post pics of that car next to your M? That would be sweet!

Given most people's typical driving miles in a month, and given that the price difference is about 10 cents per gallon, you might save about $10 to $15 a month ... maybe. Plus, you are likely to get a tiny bit less gas mileage, it comes out about even since you probably get a few percent less miles per gallon (about the difference in cost - given the $3+ per gallon in most places).

If you can't afford $10 to $15 a month extra, then you should not be in the M45 to begin with probably - consider changing to a cheaper and better gas mileage car. This is not a pejorative statemant, just a statement of fact about finances and where to be careful, etc.
