Has anyone here fabricated / wired in their own wiring harness for trailer lights etc.? I can't believe they want $165-$190 for a simple harness. I'm sure I could do it as I've done many before but I figured I would ask vise recreating the wheel so to speak.

For those of you that purchased the factory harness, did it include any boxes that looked like additional logic/circuitry or was it just all plugs and wire etc.?

I normally add in a few diodes etc. for one way current control but you never know when tapping into the tail-lights will cause strange effects given new car circuitry/grounding etc.

Let me know what you have done if you have gone down the road I am thinking about traveling... :-)

Many thanks

Smitty

I have not heard of anyone doing it themselves. Keep in mind, what may be simple to you, is much more complicated to others. I think for most people the price is well worth it, and probably their only option considering the complexity of the wiring harness.

Older vehicles are completely easy yet I agree with today's vehicles, complexity can be an issue. Not the actual wiring/fabricating yet rather what "interference" and or circuit issues you can introduce/cause from just interrupting the factory load and/or ohms etc on a circuit. As another member mentioned on another forum, the LED lights/circuits can also be a factor.

Cheers

Yes, and lets face it, there are plenty of people in the world that don't even own a screwdriver.
